Re: Wetherby 1/11 - CHARLIE HALL DAY 12.40

An interesting heat to open the card at Wetherby today, and I am hoping we get a winning favourite.

Deep Purple is the horse I am talking about and he was by far the best of these over hurdles. He managed to rack up 5 consecutive wins, including 1 listed success and 1 Grade 2 success. He then backed that up with a very creditable 1 ¾ length 2nd in the Grade 1 Tolworth behind Breedsbreeze (Won his chase debut) and then a decent 9th in the Supreme Novices at Cheltenham. Obviously there is the question mark of whether the horse will be able to show the same form over fences, but he looks to have a lot in hand of his rivals tomorrow. The worry has to be his absence, but the form looks head and shoulders above the rest, and I am happy with the price.

The main dangers look to be Lease Lend, Marsam and Le Corvee.

Lease Lend was capable over hurdles, winning some big, competitive prizes and he certainly paid his way for trainer Tim Easterby. His chase debut can probably be ignored as the ground was bottomless. He jumped ok that day though and will certainly improve for that run. I’m not sure if this firm ground will be right up his street though, and he has 22 lbs to find with the favourite on hurdle ratings.

Le Corvee is another with chasing experience in the form of a good 2nd behind Ingratitude at Towcester last time. Ingratitude hasn’t franked the form, but Le Corvee will come on for his chase debut. That wasn’t a great race though and he has 28 lbs to find with the favourite on hurdle ratings.

Marsam returns after a long absence after pulling up last time, and makes his chase debut. Over hurdles he wasn’t far away from the favourite, rated 15 lbs lower at 125 and he showed some decent form until it tailed off nearing the end of the season. His high point came when he took a novices hurdle at Musselburgh, but in all honesty, he looks to have a lot to find with the jolly.
