Infertile Quito set for surprise return to track quito_york510.jpgQuito : failed to take to stud work and may now return to the track

QUITO, one of Flat racing's favourite performers over the last decade, is poised to come out of retirement after being entered in the claimer at Yarmouth on Tuesday. The rags-to-riches career of the prolific sprinter appeared over when he flopped in last year July Cup, but after failing a fertility test and refusing to rest on his laurels at trainer Ruth Carr's Yorkshire stable, it has been decided he will be happier continuing to strut his stuff on the racecourse. Quito, bred by Sheikh Mohammed, was bought by Carr's grandfather, former trainer David Chapman, for 3,500gns in 2002 and went on to win 18 races and more than £465,000 in prize-money, including the Ayr Gold Cup and seven Listed contests. Hewas ridden to 14 of his wins by Tony Culhane.
