Goodwood 12/10/08

2.00 Bugsy's Boy is a horse I followed on the all-weather earlier in the season and he made a successful transition to turf by winning at Pontefract at the start of the flat season. He was an impressive winner that day and kept on well up the steep Ponte hill and was sent off even money favourite for his next run at Bath. However, he let his supporters down with a 2nd placed finish behind Lupita (who hasn't really gone on since) that day and then LTO at York was also a disappointment. Sent off the 5/1 fav on that occassion he was well backed but weakened inside the final 2 furlongs of the 18f trip. Nevertheless, I think he is worth siding with again now he has had a little break. He's down in class, eased 2 lbs in the handicap so only 5 lbs above his winning mark when a comfortable winner at Pontefract and he is certain to get every inch of this two mile trip judged on some strong staying efforts previously. 22/1 looks a monster price (Blue Square) so having a little gamble.

Re: Goodwood 12/10/08 2.35 I've backed Calahonda on her last few runs and although she won a nursery at Yarmouth, she was perhaps stepped up in class a bit too quickly for her latest run at Newmarket when 7th of 12. The trainer has a high opinion of her though and talked of entering her for a group 3 at the Curragh at one point, but those plans have obviously been shelved as she is back down in grade again here. She is a proven winner over this trip at this level though and only 6 lbs above her last winning mark, may be able to make it into the frame once more. This will be the softest ground she will have encountered to date but it may be in her favour given that her poor run last time out came on GF ground. 13/2 EW.
