Quick Question RE free bets

I've got a £5 free bet today from one of the bookies and just had a quick question RE using it as I'll prob get a quicker response on here rather than e-mailing them and waiting all day for a response, by which time the best prices will have gone! I want to do a £5 double on Caledonia Princess (6/4) and Mr Toshiwonka (9/2). With a normal £5 bet I'd win £68.75 inc stake wouldn't I, but they say that stakes are not returned in free bets. Does this mean that the £5 is deducted from the end winnings (i.e I would win £63.75 if the bet is successful), or from the stake that is won after the first horse, so that the £5 is not going onto the second (in which case I would only win £41.15)? If I've made sense?
