minimum age

I always thought that the min age of a racehorse was 2 years. Both the SL and RP database have numerous examples of horses running at less than 2 years old. This obervation is based on the assumption that their racing age is calculated from the horse's foaled date - is this right, or is it based on something else??

Re: minimum age I seem to recall a horses birthday was the 1st jan irrespective of when foaled. However, perhaps it is classed when the flat season officially starts (or jumps to that effect 1st June?) 2yo's therefore are classed as 2 from March (official start) & then 3 from the following March. Some foals are in May & run in March so would be 2 months short of 2yo.
