Kempton (eve) 15/8/08

5.55 A competitive class 5 handicap to open the card. Over the minimum trip and with 12 runners set to go to post it may be advantageous to look for those with a high draw. Really Really Wish is drawn in box 12 and was a CD winner in a maiden last year. Is entitled to have needed the run LTO on reappearance when a well beaten 9/9 on turf, but passing over it as the maiden form looks nothing spectacular. The 2nd was only rated 50 and hasn't won in 7 races since and the 3rd, although it won off 67 subsequently, looks inconsistent. Bluebok (stall 11) carries bottom weight which IMO is a negative, and hasn't won since Sep '06. Hasn't got closer than 2 lengths to the winner in last 4 tries on the AW and although he's dropped 12 lbs from last AW race, is still yet to win on polytrack so happy to leave alone here. Fabuleux Cherie is next in stall 10 and looks to have decent claims at 6/1. She's proven her effectiveness on the AW at Ling and Wolv with wins coming off marks up to 68; today she races off 68. Only ran once at Kempt, LTO (at this class), but she may have needed the run after a long lay off and she could come on for that appearance 44 days ago. She was a 4.25 length 3rd of 6 running off 69 and had 74 and 67-rated rivals infront of her. Wibbadune fills the last of the 'high' stalls and is a previous course and distance winner. He showed his worth on this surface with a string of consistent AW efforts earlier in the year but he's been running on the turf for the last couple of months. He was rated 74 for this last run (turf) when 4th of 8 at Hamilton (btn 2.5 l) and he runs off that mark again today, so he's now 24 lbs higher than his last AW run. However, its clear he has continued to progress in the meantime and he was closely matched with recent 4-time winner Cheveton on a piece of Sandown form in June (btn 1.5l) and that rival was rated 83 for its last win. In his favour tonight, he drops in class, so he could go well even though he's not been eased in the handicap. 1 pt win Wibbadune 7/1 1 pt win Fabuleux Cherie 6/1

Re: Kempton (eve) 15/8/08 6.25 10f, class 4 maiden here. Horses with previous racecourse experience that are from the first three in the betting fare best in AW maidens and of those win runs under their belt, Marcus Tregoning's Ahmooj seems to have taken well to AW racing. All 3 of her runs on the AW have come at Kempt (over 8, 11 and 12f) and she's placed every time, never beaten by more than 1.75 lengths. 6.55 Another maiden, this time over 7f. Only 3 of the 13 have prev racecourse experience. Key Signature has a few positives in that she's drawn in stall 11 and has shown promise in two Newbury maidens. The winner from her last race went on to place in a fillies Grp 3 NTO to boost the form. 7.55 6f class 6 claimer here and Came Back, who won four in a row on the AW earlier in the year drops in grade, having contested a class 3 conditions stakes and a class 3 handicap at Grl on his last two runs. He's 4 lbs higher than last win but dropping in grade he is clearly the class horse in the race and the one to beat. Bazguy won over CD in the past and won a class 6 claimer at Grl last month off his current mark of 70. Ryan Moore is booked and he will do as the second horse in a SF, Came Back to beat Bazguy.
