Goodwood Tues 29/07

Re: Goodwood Tues 29/07 5.15 Interesting to see the Tregoning horse Multakka lining up for seasonal debut in this race. Not seen since slamming a Class 6 field on the AW by 6L. Could be anything but had reasonable form as a 2yo & has run well here on all 3 previous occasions finishing 2nd, 2nd & 4th. Overall career record reads 8 wins/places from 11 races, so always seems to be thereabouts in its races. Wonder how the bookies wil price this horse with no recent form to look at however currently 30.0 on Betfair!!

Re: Goodwood Tues 29/07 14.50 - Goodwood Bouguerau WIN (12/1 Sportingbet) Only 6 got to post in this Group 3 race, and I think there is some serious value with this horse. Was third behind Donegal LTO, but was very close and this step down in trip should suit more. Has ran credible efforts in the Derby and Italian Derby. Only won once but has been running in some good races and conditions should suit here. Alan Munro has a decent record on the horse and if steps up has a big chance. 17.50 - Goodwood Frognal EW (12.00 Betfair Win, 5pts; 3.25 Place, 3 places) Ran green LTO at Sandown and was a decent enough 4th. Looked good all the same and the yards horses usually come on for the run, so I expect him to improve. A few unknown quantities in the race, but at 10/1 looks a decent EW bet. :hope

Re: Goodwood Tues 29/07 550 Goodwood - Magaling a scan through this ones race entries show he is highly regarded - 2 Group 2 entries, 1 Group 1 and a couple of Listeds suggest that good things are expected. He made a promising debut at yarmouth behind the promising Godolphin trained Khor Dubai, who started 4/9 fav. Magaling made the favourite work for his win with the front 2 pulling 4 lengths clear of the 3rd. the winner has franked the form by winning well since. Cumanis usually come on for their debuts and he should improve here.

Re: Goodwood Tues 29/07 2.15 Championship Point 16/1 sky 12.5 pts e.w Won this race last year off just a 1 pound lower mark and capable of doing so again. Obviously has this course form which ever vital here. Last year found some real form at this time of the season to win at asc. and here with a come from behind style that was executed perfectly by holland whos on board today. this season they havent been afraid to have it prominent and indeed lead and to some effect, beat maraahel in group 3 at chester, multidimensional also behind that day, run lto ground was too heavy so put a line through that but today in more ideal conditions certainly has real chances even though trainer yet to fire at this track so far this season, unusually. 2.50 Conduit 4/6 var bog 25 pts Really progressive, initially a handicapper but after a real rout at epsom when given a lot to do before picking up in taking fashion, couldnt replicate those tactics afterwards lto when a steady pace did for him, not to mention trouble in running as he flew late into second in a group 2. I suppose danger of something similar happening today but i dont see that as there are one or two here who will be prominnet to use their stamina and ensure a pace and also I think moore will be more on the ball here today. Obvious clear chance. 3.30 Infalliable 13/8 var 25 pts Really classy horse, group 1 material unlike most of these she faces today, officailaly nearly the best in the race today not to mention the allowances she gets and the frightening prospect of improvement at this trip. Showed how good she was at this trip on seasonal debut before stepping up to a mile and running well three times and often cruising but perhaps not quite seeing it out as strongly as she may have and therefore the drop in trip is no disadvantage for me at all, possibly similar to ravens pass, both have such good cruising speeds the could easily go back in trip. Anyway given all that she looks a stand out here, king of dixie I like as a progressive animal but I have real doubts if he is in her league. 4.05 Spin Cycle 7/2 vc 25 pts This one has loads of pace, in truth they all do but this one especially. Won two races nicely for trainer who often does well with his juveniles and then lto at asc ran a blinder, away slightly from where the action was as well to be narrow second, just going down to good south central, difficult to see those behind really turning that around tbh and sets the standard on that run. 4.40 Milne Garden 3/1 spo 25 pts 3 from 3 and lots of highly spoken words for this one and to a degree thats understable, both last two times encountered real trouble in running and yet still manged to win with a degree of ease and rise in weights didnt stop him lto either on seasonal debut. Rised 12 pounds for that but Im not sure that is another, trainer had him in group races for ascot such as hardwicke group 2, irish leger and that speaks volumes. However the plan could well be the ebor for which he would pick up a penalty for that if he wins this and he has a clear chance, question mark maybe the trip, never been this far but clearly they think he will get it and you have got to go with that, my inexperienced eye on breeding give real mixed messages on that but you never know and price drifted to a price Im more willing to take a chance on that compared to forcast price.

SelectionProponent to place
Strength10/10
Date29/07/2008
Bookmaker/Price>Betfair @ 2.58 (Back)
ReasoningCompetitive handicap and im going with the unexposed 4yr old Proponent. This horse has shown improved form this season since being gelded over the winter and a big win in a competitive Newmarket Handicap 2 starts ago stands him in good stead here. He failed to see out the 12 furlong trip last time out but still ran a great race to finish 6th beaten just 3L. The drop back to 10 furlongs will be ideal and he looks a cracking bet against mainly exposed types. 4 places paid and I find it hard to see him out the frame.

Event3.30 Goodwood
SelectionArabian Gleam to place
Strength10/10
Date29/07/2008
Bookmaker/Price>Betfair @ 2.38 (Back)
ReasoningNot too competitive for the prize on offer and despite giving away lumps of weight all round, im taking a chance on Arabian Gleam. His 2 runs this season look very good in this company. 5th in the Lockinge followed by 8th in the Queen Anne were he got hampered a furlong out but was still beaten just 3 lengths. He ran well in this race last year when it was a stronger renewal and looks a better horse this time around. Johnny Murtagh is the man of the moment and he is an eyecatching jockey booking. (note: He is available at 2.92 to place but 2.38 is the minimum were £200 is available, so I have to stick by the rules and put up this price.)

Re: Goodwood Tues 29/07 2.15 Goodwood (Class 2) I said at the start of the season that Eradicate was in for a good year. He has run with credit all season and been unlucky not to score more than once. 2nd in two heritage handicaps already this season he deserves a big prize. Ran well for me LTO at a price and I will continue to back all the time he continues to be overpriced and in good heart. I was keen on Caravel for his season debut at Sandown on the July 4th. I wrote this: Quote:

It's not often I back a Prescott horse but Caravel is a horse I really like. He impressed me last year winning his final five starts. Shot up the weights as a result (65 => 91) but that is more than fair. I think he can improve futher and I'm certain that he will a 100 horse before long. His defeats of Jamboretta and Fragrancy read very well - they are both rated in the 90s now, proving the Caravel is still the right side of the handicapper. Fitness an issue obviously. He is my idea of the Magnet Cup winner at the moment too.
He ran a race pull of promise to finish 3rd to Kaateb. He was fairly weak in the market prior and to me he ran like a future winner. The race has worked out well, the 5th Humungous has ran well twice (including win) since (re-opposes here), the winner that day was 2nd to Humungous. His best form is here and he must go close. Has been reluctant to load last twice, I wouldn't disagree with anyone who would rather wait and see how upset he gets before backing. With Prescott doing well with his older horses here (30% S/R) I would think this was his target all along. Caravel 80% of stake 6.4 betfair Eradicate 20% of stake 18 betfair Caravel/Eradicate/Monte Alto £16.50 F/C Comb £16.50 T/C Comb Put up these prices up last night on my thread, they have Caravel trading much higher now.

Re: Goodwood Tues 29/07 Already done the first two handicaps but the two group races interest me also. 2.50 Gordon Stakes I'm sure Ryan Moore will want to make up for his bad ride on Conduit at Ascot. He tried to come from too par off a snail's pace and the horse did well to get so close. I suppose the manner of his Epsom victory had something do to with Moore's lack of judgement, however coming from a mile back to win when you're running off 89 in a handicap is a lot different to a Group race at Ascot. Like I say I'm sure Moore will have Ascot in mind during the race but I'm still worried about how he will ride this given that there is a chance they could crawl in this also. To me he is priced up as if there was definite pace in the race. I will wait and if everything is going to plan in running will go in.

Re: Goodwood Tues 29/07 The signs were there with Caravel prior to the race. Thank god I rarely back the 'punters friend' Prescott. I never get the yard right. 3.30 Betfair Cup Infallible finally has the chance to run over 7f. This has to be a major plus for her but unfortunately it isn't against her own age group. King Of Dixie is a horse I have followed this season, he is definitely capable of making his mark at this level. I'm surprised Arabian Gleam is as big as he is in the betting considering that he is running in a G2. I backed him at huge odds in the Juddmonte so I cannot ignore him over his best trip here. I said before that he was unlucky not to get close to Tariq twice last season and he has proved that opinion to be correct this year. Surely overpriced. Arabian Gleam 50% of stake 10 betfair King Of Dixie 50% of stake 8.8 betfair Will have a bigger than normal combo here going top heavy on the lines that include the fav to beat the above two.

Re: Goodwood Tues 29/07 5.15 This is a festival, with large fields of runners and strange things happen. So, my selection here is Fool's Wildcat (40/1 EW). Brian Meehan's colt won a Newbury maiden last season when making all and the form of that looks decent, with Sir Michael Stoute's Confront back in 2nd (won a class 2 conditions event NTO and then ran in a Group 3 when rated 108). 3rd has won twice since and is now rated 82, and although the form of the remainder looks modest, Fool's Wildcat was a facile winner that day and pulled four lengths clear of Confornt. He finished 5th in a Group 3 (weakened over final furlong over 7f) before being put away for the rest of the year. This season his form is 47 but he can be excused for both of those runs. The first came on the AW, so he wouldn't necessarily have made much of an impression on that surface FTO, and anyway, there is no shame in finishing 4th of 8 behind Il Warrd, Gaspar van Wittel and Latin Lad who are all well regarded and rated higher than anything he'll encounter today. His last run came 11 days ago when stepped up to 10f at Newmarket. However, he weakened 2f, suggesting the drop back to a mile today should suit. He is eased 3lbs in the handicap and his draw (stall 6) seems ok. Still only a 3 yo so there could be more to come.

Re: Goodwood Tues 29/07 Had a great day at Goodwood today, picnic by the car in the FREE car park! unfortunately didnt meet up with Ginge as he is in members & i was in the Grandstand. Sorry Ginge, the pre parade is split & you cant get across to your side! Managed to park the other halves by the paddock bar waiting for a table to come spare. All night i kept thinking Gulf Express, i had a bet on Ryan Moore 15 doubles to win 1st 6 races, 3 wins & a NR meanst a nice profit. Can you believe i didnt back a single winner on course!! I forgot Gulf Express was even running & i suppose its all the problems of getting drinks, making sure the wives are happy etc that you make these mistakes with your betting. Frognal would have been a nice winner for me in the last however it wasnt to be. Too many hard luck stories today & now convinced never to back another Godolphin horse until they change something, they never run to form. Will be back there next year deffo., :ok

Read what I said Bowles.:lol I know the pre parade is split mate, but although I am a member, I use the tatts (Gordon side). I was over your side of the paddock. Still never mind eh. Sorry to hear your tale of woh. I backed Finjaan off course and went in again when it drifted. One winner from bets in four races, near miss with Stimulation 14/1 2nd. Second and third in the 5:15 too. Small profit on the day, now for the next four. Ginge

Sorry mate, i did hang around the area prior to a couple of races but every bloke i looked at gave me a strange look back! Didnt spot a tall suited Ginger amongst them. See the srowd was up just over 15K, blimey it felt like at least 20k minimum to me. I am out most of the week so wont be posting much & wont have any internet access from Thurs to Sunday, so have a good one.
