Wolverhampton 25/7/08

2.25 Class 6 claimer over the extended mile to open the card here for what looks to be a wide open race. Arctic Desert scored over CD in a seller on his last AW run and runs off the same mark of 64 again here. Gay Kelleway's gelding is prolific at Dunstall Park and has notched up 4 CD wins from 11 attempts (all in sellers). The other positive is that Chris Catlin, who knows how to ride the course, takes the ride. Dancing Deano and Motu are suited to the surface but are not proven to stay this far. Steig has gone well here in handicaps in the past and could be dangerous off a mark of 62 (won here off 61 in January and a 2.5 length second off 63 in a class 5 handicap soon after). He likes to lead though so although James Doyle knows how to win around here, stall 12 may be a hinderence? Le Chiffre is a previous CD winner and is the highest rated horse in the field (70). He was 0.75 lengths (3rd) behind Arctic Desert over CD on his last AW run (led but just failed to hang on) but is 4 lbs better off today at the weights and is well berthed to sit in behind the leaders early doors. Time to Regret hasn't won for 8 months but a couple of half decent efforts in class 6 handicaps (including a 2 length 3rd of 10 over CD off 57) suggest he could go in off his current mark of 57 now he drops in grade. For what it is worth, the form of his last run on turf showed he was in decent mood with a narrow defeat into 4th (btn by just over a length). General Feeling picked up a couple of class 6 handicaps over CD earlier in the year off 53 and 55 and dropped into a claimer here two runs ago. Running off 54 he was a 2.25 length 4th of 11. He's dropped 2 lbs by the handicapper here, but others make more appeal. Wogan's Sister won a class 6 handicap over CD off 52 three runs ago. She's up 3 lbs here and hasn't built upon that win in two subesquent runs so can easily be opposed in favour of those with stronger credentials above. Casablanca Minx was sandwiched between Arctic Desert and Le Chiffre LTO in the aforementioned seller. She only went down by a neck, runs off 55 again here, but today receives 13 lbs from Arctic Desert - received 5 lbs LTO - and 5 lbs from Le Chiffre - who she conceded 1 lb to LTO). Thus, she is weighted to confirm superiority over both of those rivals at the revised weights and, as four time CD winner, must good claims. Sport Life tissue 8/1

Re: Wolverhampton 25/7/08 4.10 Class 5 Nursery handicap here. Red Cell is a NR already so only 6 go to post. Mister Green was well backed on his debut at Great Leighs (15/2 into 11/4f) and landed the gamble by winning by 1.75 lengths from Solo Attempt, who won her next two races. Since then he has run twice on turf in a class 3 novices race at Doncaster (4/5) and then made his handicap debut at Leicester off 84, finishing 0.75 lengths off the winner. Its hard to assess whether his current AW mark of 84 is fair relative to that turf mark, but at least he's a previous polytrack winner and with only 3 runs under his belt he could have plenty more up his sleeve.
