voiceofjoe
First we suffer the humiliation of Euro 2008, having no English representative - not even a reserve team from the colonies to make up the numbers, that we could adopt and cheer on as British. Now the WSOP has been and gone without a British bracelet, and just one runners-up (I think it was just James Akenhead that made it close) place to show for this once Great Nation :sad - and then to top it all not one of the final 9 WSOP main Event finalists is British either.:cry I think we need some National Lottery Funding for UK Poker - can we get ´Tikay´and APAT filling out the request forms.... or maybe our two great Poker Mags can lobby for Poker to be classed as an Olympic Event in 2012. Seriously though what went wrong :eyes
mhammond
Re: Keeping up our great British sporting tradition (?) can lobby for Poker to be classed as an Olympic Event in 2012. That would be so great and funny all the oldies watching the 100m sprint then a live update of a £1'000'000 winner has got the gold in poker :nana:nana:nana
slapdash
Re: Keeping up our great British sporting tradition (?) There's been a long-running, but so far unsuccessful, campaign to get chess and bridge admitted as Olympic "sports". At one point, the bridge people thought they had a better chance to get into the Winter Olympics, but that's supposed to be for sports "held on ice or snow" ... which would have been possible, although a little gratuitous. :D
AlunB
Re: Keeping up our great British sporting tradition (?) What about? http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=1685 And a near miss http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/event.php?a=r&n=29679 Also I think brits run well above expectation bearing in mind the percentage of each field that are limeys. And most brits only go for a few weeks rather than the whole thing. This is from the official WSOP press release after the last event.... Eleven different nations have produced a gold bracelet winner at this year's WSOP. This list now includes Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Italy, Russia, and the United States. So take comfort in the fact Sweden and France missed out too.
