Perhaps the race comes too soon after Ascot?

SAKHEE'S SECRET will not bid to attempt back-to-back victories in the Darley July Cup after Hughie Morrison ruled the co-favourite out of the Group 1 contest, highlight of the Newmarket July meeting on Friday. The four-year-old has not been giving his trainer the right signals since finishing last in the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, won by Kingsgate Native. Morrison said: "While the horse is clinically okay he is clearly not feeling well in himself. I think the July Cup is going to come too soon after Ascot. When you are tackling one of the biggest sprint's of the season, everything needs to be spot-on." Jeremy Noseda's Fleeting Spirit is also a confirmed absentee in the July Cup. The Invincible Spirit filly was third in the King's Stand at Royal Ascot and is instead likely to be seen in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York on August 22. "Fleeting Spirit is a non-runner in the July Cup, although she appears to be in good order," the trainer told www.jeremynoseda.com. "It has been decided, following a hard race at Royal Ascot when she was possibly not 100 per cent, that it would be unwise to ask her to compete at this level three and a half weeks later. "She will now be prepared for a tilt at the Nunthorpe."
