Beware Betfair Distances

Why do the betfair distances (on the left hand side of the page) have distances that are so far out from the actual distance? e.g the 3:15 and 3:45 maiden races at Salisbury today are said to be 6f. But they are only 8 yds short of 7f (212 yds further than 6f). The 4:15 described as 1m1f is only 22 yds short of 1m2f (198 yds more than 1m1f). Would it not be better to go to the nearest furlong?
