Wolverhampton 19th May

6.50 Wisdom's Kiss - this seems to be his level as he won over CD at this class in February and was only denied by a neck when attempting to follow up just after. He was upped to class 5 thereafter and disappointed. An 8th placed effort on the turf at Beverley is also nothing to shout about either, but back at Dunstall Park and running at this level he could go close again for jockey Quinn. 8.20 This is a really interesting race compared to some of the races that are usually run on the all-weather. Seb Sanders' mount Kafuu was last seen rubbing shoulders with the likes of Vitznau and Damika when sent off the 3/1 favourite at Newmarket last season. However, he finished right at the back of the field and has since been transferred on from Jeremy Noseda. Luca Cumani sends Axiom who benefits from the presence of useful claimer Ashley Hamblett in the saddle. Cumani has a good record here with a winning percentage of 26.5 % from the 68 runners he has sent here over the past 5 years, so his runner must be respected even though it has no experience of the surface. But there are also quite a few longer priced horses that have repeatedly proven themselves over course and distance, albeit at lower levels. Mountain Cat was a triple course and distance winner last season and will be hoping to recapture that form after a poor showing on his reappearance at Pontefract. Justcallmehandsome (EW) is another that goes well here, and goes in search of his 6th course and distance win. However, none of those wins have come at this level and this is probably why he is 12/1. He did put in a good effort for Billy Cray at Great Leighs at class 4 level LTO though and shouldn't be totally dismissed. Kildare Sun has four CD wins, including one at this level, but he's never won off this mark in the past. One can only assume that the odds compiler at Bet 365 made a huge error this morning in pricing Arthur's Edge up as a 16/1 shot. With form figures of 311 over course and distance he could make a mockery of that price. He's fit and fresh, as a recent course win over a lesser trip proves. He's got form in handicaps, he's progressive, he'll see out the trip and he handles the surface. Although he's up in class he goes well for Tolley Dean (form figures of 42112 for jockey) and should be involved. His odds have now been cut to around 4/1 though. 8.50 Strabinios King - goes well over course and distance with two wins and a place from four efforts. In defeat he has only been beaten by 0.44 and 1.25 lengths, although he is up 4 lb in the handicap here. Kingsmaite won well at Southwell last week and seems to have benefitted since being dropped back in trip. He was denied by half a length here in January over an extra furlong but with Makin on board another bold bid should be expected here (form of 22211 this year for jockey). 9.20 Sir Duke - in the best form of his career, winning last week at Newmarket to build on success at Great Leighs on his reappearance. He scored over CD here at the back end of last season so even though he carries a 6 lb penalty he should be involved again here. Even in defeat at Kempton in between those runs he was only a length or so off the winner. :hope
