Re: Pontefract 21/04 Here's my take on the big race at Pontefract. 3.10 Pontefract Annoyingly, 1 NR now means just 15 runners for this Class 2, 6f sprint handicap and paying 3 places. A really competitive race for this track and a very open heat. Genki, the likely fav, looked extremely progressive last term in its 3yo days but faces its toughest task to date off a career high mark. At the price, I would oppose because the lack of a recent run, handicap mark and its failure to win when fav on its 2 tries outside of 3yo company last term. Preference is for one of the market leaders though in: Damika (RPF 6/1) - Looks to have a cracking chance here and comes here fit from a run just 10 days ago. Is drawn in 12 which actually is not a disadvantage on this left hand turning track. In fact, on softish ground, it can actually favour the higher drawn horse and those coming from off the pace which this horse is expected to do. Looked quite progressive last term and, despite racing off a high mark, comes here with every chance. Was the eyecatcher on its seasonal reappearance when not settling too well and blocked off 2f out before staying on inside the last furlong to the best effect. Has experience of the track and distance poses no issues. Is effective at either 6 or 7f and the slight ease in the ground will also suit, although doesn't want it too soft. Goes well for this jockey and stable had a 40/1 winner on Saturday so no issue over stable wellbeing. Has the ability to take this and any price around 8's should be taken EW. Should be a super race with some up and coming types against some listed performers on the downgrade. Looking forward to this and I hope Damika comes home best of all to take this valuable 0-100 handicap.
