Brighton - 13/4/08

Recommended Posts

2.40 – Millfield – previous course winner who has also won over this distance and has been kept fit on the AW in recent months with a string of solid efforts in handicaps, including a win at Lingfield over 8f LTO. It races off a mark of 70 today (2lbs higher than previous AW win) but has won on the turf off 83 in the past. The soft ground may find him out so my saver will be on Support Fund. The latter has won 2/4 here and goes on the ground, however, there are no guarantees that it sees out the trip and hence that is why it is my saver. Returning from a break but is just 3lbs higher than last win. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

90 % stake Millfield (3/1 SJ BOG) 10 % stake Support Fund (11/2 SJ BOG)

3.10 – Bentong – trainer Paul Cole’s outstanding form has been well documented and Bentong is one that, although making its reappearance, goes well fresh – form returning from 60+ day breaks reads 1210. Was rated 100+ towards the back end of the last campaign and struggled as such, but starts this season off 99 here so is just 3 lb higher than when it won at <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Redcar last season. Although generally raced on good or firm ground it did place at Ripon on soft ground on one of the rare occasions it ran with a bit of cut in the ground. Angus Newz could rank the main danger and fared respectably at Nottingham on her seasonal debut. Running off the same mark again today after a 2.12 defeat when 3/7 but that will have freshened her up and she has won class one races in the past, including off a mark of 95 at Hamilton. Suited to the trip and handles the ground. Bentong (11/4 Betfred) 75 % stake Angus Newz (5/2 SJ BOG) 25 % stake

4.40 – Quite an interesting race here I thought. Flying Cowboy has won over the distance and handles the ground and produced a close effort of this mark but that was last season and at lower classes. Arturius is rated 18 lbs lower than his last run at Wolverhampton when it was only beaten by half of a length recently and it has winning form on soft ground too. Prime Number has recent winning form over this trip in a class 4 handicap at Kempton but seems to appreciate drier ground. The one that appears to tick more boxes than most is Friends Hope, turned out quickly after its 3rd at Musselburgh on Friday. The latter is a CD winner who was was running on well in the closing stages that day but didn’t get a clear run in over 1f out. Although Donohoe takes the rides today, and thus the horse no longer has Sohpie Doyle’s 7 lb claimer, it is still rated fairly. Runs off 70 today and won off 75 under this jockey off a 5 lb higher mark on its penultimate run. 100 % stake Friends Hope (11/4 in general)

Re: Brighton - 13/4/08 Gone after the placepot today for a bit of interest. Looks pretty easy to get up, with no races having more than 9 runners... Not expecting a great deal back if it comes home mind! 1 - The Galloping Shoe 2 - Millfield & Thermidor 3 - Bentong & Angus Newz 4 - Pha Mai Blue 5 - Captain Webb 6 - Prime Number & The Flying Cowboy Anyone else involved?
