Nade
I've spent the last day on the craziest ride of my life sometimes playing 4 short handed tables at a time thinking i had a solid strategy from PKR, and it started well doubling my roll on there within a few hours. Today has seen the opposite - i'm now back to break even. Having gotten bored of full ring games i ventured to short handed a few weeks ago and was doing extremely well on them without really looking at any strategy as i just thought it's just the normal game but with slightly more action. Well, that was on PKR (and before my infamous challenge) , now i've been playing short handed 25/50c games on FTP and the last word i'd use to describe them is 'normal' :loon. It seems the slowness of PKR in general means i didn't get a real feel for the game, but having played FTP the last day it's like a whole new planet. I said in a post the other day on here 'Is there any way to not get stacked or not stack others' and that was before i played on FTP. The standard of player at the 25/50c on FTP seems annoyingly good, the majority certainly seem to know about 3betting, watching for patterns and in general really are always testing me and eachother every hand, it's tough work, but bloody good for the adrenaline! Having read a few strategy articles today and various other bits i was laughing out loud throughout as the comments about going through big ups and downs even in short sessions, getting outdrawn frequently just rang so true to me even after 1days action. And that has swung both ways - for and against me. It's been one crazy journey in 1 day, and luckily i'm at break even right now but i've recognised i need to sort out some serious strategy for this game before it's too late. Anyway, cut to the chase i'm wondering what others experience of this game is and if you've been playing it for a while what you wish you'd have done differently at the start and what your top tips are. A good article i found: http://www.inside-edge-mag.co.uk/pokertips/skillsandstrategy/2575/poker_strategy.html And something about luck: http://www.internettexasholdem.com/texas-holdem-poker-strategy/ian-taylor-aka-piemaster/why-every-poker-player-is-unlucky/ http://www.totalgambler.com/pokertips/skillsandstrategy/2324/short_handed_holdem.html This sums up SHNL for me: "Short-handed play is akin to a rollercoaster ride and, in the name of mental toughness, you have to make sure you’re strapped in."
