toncker
Re: Welcome to PL Toncker Thanks - there seem to be a lot of PLers around. Only starting out really and at the moment playing only on Virgin. I like the points one and not done too bad. It seems more popular now though so I need to improve my play. Still got a small bankroll at the moment - lost a bit when they put blackjack on the site - will give that one up though :cry I think that I prefer the tourneys, STTs are more expensive but I suppose that is how I will build the bankroll. Any top tips greatfully received. Toncker :gimme
GaF
Re: Welcome to PL Toncker My top tip if you're starting out, serious about improving and prepared to put some time in.....and interested primarily in MTTs/TOurneys, read the Harrington on Hold'em series of books (especially the first 2 volumes) :ok For a great read on building a bankroll - read this thread from Mr V How To Start Out in Poker Without Risking Your Own Cash :ok The improtant thing to take from that - there's absolutely no need to risk your own money :ok I've put into practice what I learnt from Mr V here - GaF's Nothing to Something thread (Current Bank €859.04)

If win at poker I have a wee flutter and if I lose at poker I try and recover losses. Once had a bankroll of $397 after a bad days play and went onto roulette to get it up to a round $400 8 blacks later it was a big round nothing And I know, you Know, and the whole world knows it a mugs game. All the prima sites(except bet 365???:eek) will lock the casino door for you and throw away the key. Blue square(IPN??) also lock the casino areas on request. Contacted Virgin and Paradise about this but neither would oblige. Only ever leaving a small bankroll in either of these sites, after nearly losing 1400 euro yesterday playing black jack at paradise. No suggesting you have a problem but thought I would share this info with the WWW anyway My best advice is only play with money you arent afraid to lose and if that means freerolls so be it. Keep an eye on the daily thread here to find were there is value for small stakes. I think everyone at some stage plays STT's as part of their developement but I'm dreading the thought of trying to play 15 in a week for the upcoming Virgin promotion. Small stakes STT= a small profit over a very long period and I even doubt their value as an educational tool. Keep at it though and hopefully you'll not hate the game as much as me in a few years. In fact my best advice is not to listen to my advice, it will just make you miserable.
GaF
Re: Welcome to PL Toncker Blue square is iPoker (as is Bet365 now) :ok IPN is just another name for Boss - so Virgin, Paradise et al. Sorry to hear about your blackjack yesterday :sad As you say (and I'm not going to be "kind", because your loss can have some benefit for others if they dont do the same) it's a mugs game - you cannot beat the odds!! It is negative ev - if you play, you will lose (even if you "win" short term). (Ignoring bonuses - but most of the time, they're not worth chasing anyway!!)
