RussP
Re: Newmarket 03/11 1.35 Newmarket 15 runners for this Class 4 handicap over 7f. Currently 5/1 the field so many in with chances, but I have a strong fancy for: Purus (8/1 >Betfred) - Specialist over this distance of 7f, and has Chris Catlin back on board (is 2 from 2 on this horse). Back down in class after excellent efforts in Class 2 races, now races in Class 4, and eased a little in handicap mark. Since last win, has had figures of 30355 but, looking into these further, these are decent stats with excuses made on each run as follows:- 3rd of 14, veered left when making its move 14th of 20, was going smoothly but race was too far, a mile. All its form is over 7. 3rd of 10, 2 horses went to the opposite rail and finished 1-2, so in theory this horse won its race 5th of 17, good run here in a Class 2 race. 2lb higher than today in that race too as well as down in class 5th of 26, another cracking effort in Class 2. Not exactly a trouble-free passage here but, in essence, beaten by the draw. This horse was drawn 4, with the first 8 being drawn 20-16-18-25-Purus (4)-23-22-26. A repeat of any of those efforts, particularly the last 3 would make this horse favourite in my book. Big chance today.
RussP
Re: Newmarket 03/11 In the first at 12.00, I fancy Stoutes horse Certain Promise to open with a win here. Ryan Moore on board and looks a weakish maiden with only Jarvis' fav to fav. So at 9/2, EW bet to nothing. I also fancy Secret Gem to run well for Philip Robinson. Has good high draw, and if this horse gets out well, and gets the rail, this excellent front running jockey could spring a surpise. Worth small stakes at around 25's. RussP
Re: Newmarket 03/11 3.15 Newmarket Class 2 handicap over 1m here with 14 runners. 6/1 the field, very open race and I'm putting my hard earned on: Prince Of Thebes (generally 8/1) - ran 9th lto to Damika but was stopped when looking a threat. That form has been boosted by Purus' win earlier on the card. Extra furlong is more suitable today, as is the much better ground. Excellent EW bet despite a slightly higher handicap mark.
