Re: Euro Ice Hockey Leagues 08 - 10/09 Hull Stingrays - Newcastle Vipers over 5.5 (2.00 @ Bet365) Last year was Hull's first season in the league and they needed some time to get used to this level of competition. Their team was really young and their inexperience was the main reason they didn't reach the play-offs, since their performance improved a lot in the second part of the season. They have brought a lot of new players (mostly North American - biggest name is ECHL All-Star Rob Rankin) and they look like a certain play-off candidate this year. They were very good in pre-season matches. Last match was against strong Cardiff Devils and they have won 5:1. Newcastle didn't bring a lot of new names, but mostly kept the old ones. Those few new players are mostly Europeans. Last season wasn't satisfactory for Newcastle. They showed glimpses of brilliance, but they have lost so many matches when they were favourites to win. It's hard to rate these opponents. Hull was very strong in defence last year, but it seems that they have now improved in attack, also. They will probably be less defence-oriented this year. Newcastle didn't lose a single match in pre-season, so they will also be confident and goal oriented. With small stakes, I wouldn't be surprised to see more than a few goals in this match.
