Färjestad - Linköping 19:00 CET This game is the first in the Nordic Trophy, a pre-season tournament to the Nordic leagues. This game is played in Munkfors, i.e on neutral ground eventhough the site is much closer to Färjestads home town. Linköping were beaten in the finals last season (lost to MODO) and on their way to the final they knocked out Färjestad easily (4-1). This season they have lost some good players to the NHL but also recruited Mattias Weinhandl from the NHL. Weinhandl used to play in MODO, a player with awesome technique and a good eye for the game. Even though he apparantly wasn't good enough for the NHL he will probably be one of the best players in Elitserien this winter. Linköping have played one friendly so far this season and that was against Almtuna (victory 4-2). Färjestad were a big disappointment last season. They always have alot of pressure on them and could'nt live up to the expectations last year. For years they have relied on players with lots of routine and some of those players are in fact injured and won't be able to participate in this game. Six of Färjestads players are missing today and are being replaced by junior players. Nordström, Prestberg and Jörgen Jönsson (captain of team) won't play since they have injuries. Motin, who's just come back from Canada is going to attend a rehabilitation program. Cullen and Somervouri will also miss this game. Conclusion: The game is being played on neutral ground and therefore Färjestad won't have much advantage. Also, Linköping might just have a big mental advantage on Färjestad after the play-offs last season. To top it off, the injuries Färjestad have will tip the scale in Linköping favor.
