AJ
This isn't a bad beat story, I win this pot for 241x BB :ok I feel compelled to post it, not because I played well, but because I was stunned at just how poorly the person holding AA played this pot. You see it so often, they get pocket rockets and fall in love with them and assume the pot is won I call with the K9 suited from the SB, as the pot hasn't been raised, only 1 other caller, figure i'll have a look. For me his first error is the min raise with the rockets, 5 x BB and i'm gone. The flop of Q T J gives me a straight, and barring anyone holding AK, I'm golden. I bet out 3 x BB, just as a feeler, he raises me to 20 x BB, other guy calls; I reraise all in. Surely he needs to put me on trips, two pair or perhaps the straight. Nope he insta calls with his rockets. :eyes My runner runner flush just rubs it in a bit. Not needed as my flopped straight is good enough to win pot. Appalling play in my book POKERSTARS GAME #10470740664: HOLD'EM NO LIMIT ($0.05/$0.10) - 2007/06/16 - 20:40:30 (ET) Table 'Ialmenus V' 9-max Seat #3 is the button Seat 2: Nospin33333 ($19.20 in chips) Seat 3: gigantl ($13.50 in chips) Seat 4: asjohnstone ($9.70 in chips) Seat 5: cnmnc ($11.70 in chips) Seat 6: lorrand ($5.75 in chips) Seat 7: mr. halfstep ($5.55 in chips) Seat 8: raPn3ss ($10 in chips) Seat 9: byrnesam ($5.40 in chips) asjohnstone: posts small blind $0.05 cnmnc: posts big blind $0.10 raPn3ss: posts big blind $0.10 Dieter_der_I: sits out *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to asjohnstone [Ks 9s] lorrand: calls $0.10 mr. halfstep: folds raPn3ss: checks byrnesam: folds Nospin33333: folds gigantl: folds asjohnstone: calls $0.05 cnmnc: raises $0.10 to $0.20 lorrand: calls $0.10 raPn3ss: calls $0.10 asjohnstone: calls $0.10 *** FLOP *** [Qc Tc Js] asjohnstone: bets $0.30 cnmnc: raises $1.70 to $2 lorrand: calls $2 raPn3ss: folds asjohnstone: raises $7.50 to $9.50 and is all-in cnmnc: calls $7.50 lorrand: calls $3.55 and is all-in *** TURN *** [Qc Tc Js] [5s] *** RIVER *** [Qc Tc Js 5s] [6s] *** SHOW DOWN *** asjohnstone: shows [Ks 9s] (a flush, King high) cnmnc: mucks hand asjohnstone collected $7.50 from side pot lorrand: mucks hand asjohnstone collected $16.60 from main pot *** SUMMARY *** Total pot $25.35 Main pot $16.60. Aykay1
Re: How not to play AA I used to find it hard to throw away pocket A's but you have to have the discipline to do so if u feel your getting beat.
SteveO
Re: How not to play AA Also when limping with AA in early position hoping for a raise behind be prepared to fold with multiple callers behind and a dangerous flop.
jeffers
Re: How not to play AA you won with a flush not a straight :tongue2 He said that :unsure It's poor play yeah, AA is no better than any pair once there's a straight or flush draw up, or a paired board...bad players just can't throw it away, makes no sense really cos at the end of the day it is only a pair. :)
SteveO
Re: How not to play AA I think the biggest mistake of beginner players is slow playing or overplaying big pairs. I also made this mistake when starting out you look down at AA and automatically think that you're gonna win regardless of the flop.

jeffers
Re: How not to play AA He's called an all in with AA, when there's a 4 card straight on the board, that just is terrible isn't it :lol
