2.55 Newbury

Recommended Posts

DESAILLY looks to have a good chance here. The key is the track - Newbury is a huge 2m oval course which suits out-and-out gallopers, and you tend to get specialists here. Since being put over fences, DESAILLY has run 6 times on similar big tracks to this (Exeter being the other one he's raced on), and his form figures look like this... 3U1221 He was blighted by jumping problems in his first few starts over fences, but seems to have ironed them out as he's gained experience. His form at Newbury is 21 and he goes on this faster ground no problems. He has broken blood vessels in the past, which probably explains why he goes well fresh - so his 28-day lay-off is another plus. His form this term is certainly good enough to win this race. First time out he won a similar race to this over CD, winning with a lot in hand off 110. He had been rated 119 a year ago, but had dropped in the hcap after losing his form in the second half of the season (connections put it down to bursting). Next time he went to Sandown, a track not ideal for him, and ran a cracker off 120, going down narrowly in a sustained battle with course specialist KINGS MISTRAL in a better class race. The stiff track and soft ground possibly just found him out, and the return to better ground on this flat track will be ideal. He is up again to 127, but if he can run so well in adverse conditions in a better race last time off 120, he can certainly win this of 127. 5.2 available at Betfair.
