Djordje
I guess my gambling nature wont resist too long :\ :unsure What's the best way for a guy who saw poker on TV only to try it? And what's the catch with "freerolls" - is it for free with a chance to win some money as I understood? And few reccomendations where to try it are also welcome. slapdash
Re: Poker question Might be worth having a read of these two sticky threads, Djordje. http://www.punterslounge.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15669 http://www.punterslounge.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23271 In particular, if you follow the link in the first post of the second thread to "How to start out ..." you'll find an excellent post by Mr. V. P.S. No catch with freerolls (although some of them have conditions for entering, such as having played so much for real money), but you're unlikely to make your fortune from them ... the amount of money on offer is usually quite small. They're basically advertizing gimmicks, like the free bets you get now and then from bookmakers.

Valiant23
Re: Poker question Djordje, I'd only seen poker on TV when I caame a cross PL. I read almost every post in Poker Novice Questions, and I played a lot of freerolls. After about 4 months I got reasonably average at it. Gaf's post here is excellent at explaining the progression of a poker player. http://www.punterslounge.com/forum/showpost.php?p=274308&postcount=4 and I wrote this. http://www.punterslounge.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21979 My poker has never cost me a penny. It can cost you your sanity though. :lol
GaF
Re: Poker question Great Djordie :ok As has been said - Mr V's post is golddust :ok Freerolls ARE straight up in general - no catch (they try and attract players to their real money games). You CAN build a bankroll without risking a penny of your own money - at the beggining it will be long and slow for little reward - BUT you are building a bankroll and learning the game :ok I think you can learn a lot too from watching Pokernightlive (can watch on the internet - between 21:00 and 01:00 UK time every night). And whilst freeroll prizes can be small, they can be huge too - as mentioned this weekend I won an $8,000 package to Singapore - a year ago I won a $10,000 package to Maidstone :lol :lol Fenners has won $36,000 - loads of others have won $5000 or more - FROM FREEROLLS!!! Look at the Personal Best Thread - http://www.punterslounge.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23837 - looks to me at a glance that there are 9 prizes in excess of $5000 from freerolls!!! Others - Like TaxMonkeys $14k prize was a "free entry" added through a PL buy in league (6 games x $2 each!!!) There really is so much value in poker if you hunt around for it (or read the poker forum ;) ) Welcome to the club :ok

Valiant23
Re: Starting out in Poker Have you got all night? :unsure If not mate then I suggest wait until tomorrow evening. Blue Square have a freeroll called the bankroll bosster that starts at 20:45 your time(?) (119:45 UK) Sporting odds poker has one that starts at 1900 UK time called the safety net. I'd play those mate. :ok
GaF
Re: Starting out in Poker I can only see one starting in 1 hr 10 mins - have you got the times wrong? Registration openbs in 10 minutes..... This is probably not exclusive to Bet365 and will be Network Wide. That means that it will have a huge number of entrants ...... that doesn't matter too much whilst you are learning, but later it wont be worth going anywhere near them ;)
GaF
Re: Starting out in Poker Have you got all night? If it fills up (6000!!) then you can expect it to take many hours (5 or 6 at a guess). Top 260 are paid :ok
Djordje
Re: Starting out in Poker Have you got all night? :unsure :unsure how long does it take? wouldnt be the first time to stay all night in front of PC... GaF
Re: Starting out in Poker You really want to find some with just a few hundred - 3000 will probably take 4 to 5 hours (does depend on blinds too). Even the small ones will usually take a couple of hours (this is assuming you get right to the end)

GaF
Re: Starting out in Poker Other thing you can try - if you go to a tribeca site (PaddyPower for example) you can play Single Table Tournaments (10 players - or less!!) from 10c - might be a good place to learn :ok (though don't expect a high standard of play from your opponents)

Djordje
Re: Starting out in Poker I survived for 3 rounds :sad actually I think I was doing fine, but acted pretty naive in one situation I guess - after I got two jacks in one hand; another guy who was going with all his chips 3-4 times and stayed the only player on the table went 'all-in', I followed thinking he's bluffing or he cant beat my two jacks, but guess what - he had two kings :@ never mind, looks like nice fun, I think I'll try tomorrow again :lol
