Can't see why you'd be worried just now, SO is not a US site and your not a US player. No need to panic just yet:D

I wouldn't, I'm sure your money is safe, especially with a publicly traded company like SO. I don't think European players are going to have any troubles in terms of being able to play and in terms of their funds being safe - it's just going to be harder to find weak games. The American players who play seriously will have workarounds for this (western union, foreign bank accounts etc), but it's going to squeeze out all the casual players that stick $100 in their Party account on a friday night to have a few beers and some entertainment. I know that when I bump into American players after this bill is signed I'm going to afford them a lot of respect at the table, because chances are they're pretty serious players.

I would be concerned for sure, Spodds are owned by Sportingbet, whose shares have crashed over 60% since. I just think nobody should have too much money in their accounts with any company involved in this matter. Sportingbet relied on USA customers for over 60% of its business, so you make your own mind up.

Re: Email i received regarding US poker accounts

sporting bet who own sporting odds has 62% of its business in the us (i think) do you ever think anything like this could happen here?
Didn't see this post before my reply. It won't happen in the UK, gambling is legal and our government earns far too much from it, that I can assure you.

Re: Email i received regarding US poker accounts My own opinion on this, and I might be wrong, is that only very small sites have much chance of going bankrupt as a result of this legislation. They take the same amount of rake from all players so it remains a profitable model so long as income covers operating costs, which essentially aren't that large in the case of online poker, most held profit is used for promotions not operating costs. We'll probably see sites losing employees, and almost certainly cutting promotional moneys, but I'm personally not worried about major sites shutting down. Lot of good info on this legislation here: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=7501744&an=0&page=0#Post7501744

Re: Email i received regarding US poker accounts I can't believe this actually went through. Bloody Americans. I'm glad I don't like in the "land of the free". I've only got money in PokerStars at the moment, and I can't imagine them going out of business overnight. That said, I do think the majority of their players were from the US.. It's going to take a few weeks for this all to settle down.

Re: Email i received regarding US poker accounts Personally I think it will go the other way in this country. The government, I think, now realise just how much could be gained in revenue. On the other hand I could be argued that is why they want to give out licences for moe casinos in perperation for making online gambling illegal. I can't see this as more and more people want to gamble online. As for the USA doing what they have, it won't take long before someone will get around it. Probably be a bit like prohibition or pirate radio.

Re: Email i received regarding US poker accounts Am I missing the plot here, or what. Hands up if something you enjoy doing was made illegal, you would stop doing it ?? ...... nope not me either. There will be a hundered and one ways to get around this stupid, law. It will just result in a transfer of wealth - some companies 'honest' will make big losses, some other 'not so honest' companies will make big profits. As mentioned in earlier post ... look at prohibition as a sparkling example.

Re: Email i received regarding US poker accounts For once the UK government is doing the right thing - from September next year online operators will be allowed to run operations from the UK, paying tax. And the big sites are definitely not going to go bankrupt over this. Companies might have lost 60% of their share price, but they're still making a hell of a lot of money from the rest of the world. They're just going to have to concentrate on growing their non US business which should see a lot more value tournaments over here as they scramble for your custom.

Re: Email i received regarding US poker accounts My general impression of this was that all the US was now going to prevent was players using credit/debit cards to make a deposit/withdrawal. :unsure That being the case then there would be ways round it, ie making deposits/withdrawals by bankers draft/cheque. If that's right then why panic by withdrawing all your money from 'affected' accounts when all that's going to happen is a longer wait for your cash? I could (and probably am! :lol ) be completely wrong and would welcome advice... don't want to lose that precious $24 Party Poker have! :rollin :cheers

Re: Email i received regarding US poker accounts Hi all, i received the email from another forum im a member of, and they have been pretty hot on things in the past, so although it may be shite, if you have accounts with lots of money in, i personally would be withdrawing for the time being, cant do any harm and if all gets solved, you can always deposit again
