Re: Australian A-League Round 3 Adelaide vs Newcastle Well here we have two teams both keen to win after very slow starts. Adelaide have lost their first 2 while Newcastle have had a draw and a loss. Last weekend Adelaide had a shock 0-1 loss to last years cellar dwellers in New Zealand, while Newcastle lost a 5 goal epic to Queensland 2-3 by conceding a goal in the final few minutes. This will be Adelaides first match at home this season and to be honest, I cant see them dropping points here. Newcastle have a few concerns in their squad for this weekends match. They are missing socceroo Joel Griffiths & their new signing Rodriguez will be unavailable to play, they also have a few injury concerns with Jade North & Jobe Wheelhouse. Matt Thompson and Steve Eagleton were injured in last weeks match but have both been named to play for Newcastle, but there would have to be a few clouds over them. On the other hand Adelaide have a pretty strong squad to choose from, with only Michael Valkanis ruled out through injury but Dutch winger Bobby Petta will be making his debut for Utd. The problem with Adelaide so far this season is their ability to find goals, they are still yet to open up their account and if it wasnt for their strong defence they could of lost by a lot more. They were unlucky to concede last week against New Zealand due to a Buari wonder strike at the 89th minute. Against Melbourne in the first game their defence was very strong at times, but at other times let them down, but as a whole last week it held up well. They will be hoping Carl Veart can start scoring goals again, he was red hot last year and i believe he could be the difference tommorow night. In conclusion i think Adelaide will be too strong for Newcastle in their first home match for the season. However i think it will be a tight affair, maybe Adelaide to win 1-0 with Carl Veart being the scorer Adelaide to win (1-0)

Re: Australian A-League Round 3 Hi just saw the odds for this weekend, $4.10 for New zealand is crazy! I will put some thoughts down latter for all of the matches, but when I saw $4.10 I nearly fell of my chair, and $3.45 for Sydney, what the F is going on with that, way too long for me. At this stage I am putting the house, and the first born child, maybe my right arm on Sydney straight out at $3.45. Just FYI this is how Sportingbet are seeing the market, massive difference here, just shows what good value Centrebet are offering: Adelaide vs Newcastle Adelaide 2.00 Newcastle 3.60 Draw 3.30 Central Coast vs Queensland Central Coast 2.45 Queensland 2.75 Draw 3.25 New Zealand vs Melbourne New Zealand 4.10 Melbourne 1.80 Draw 3.50 Perth vs Sydney Perth 2.30 Sydney 2.90 Draw 3.30

Certainly New Zealand and Sydney FC are way over the odds...I don't think i will put the house on Sydney lol, might put the shed on it tho...$3-45 for Sydney is definitely appears great value for the way they play the game...One thing that interest me is that Sydney beat Mariners 1-0, Melbourne beat Adelaide 2-0, and Adelaide and Mariners have not won a game yet or havn't scored a goal for that matter...So how good is the form?...Perth beat mariners rather easily I thought and they got belted by Queensland, albeit 3 late goals...So i would not be taking Melbourne at 1-77 against New Zealand at their home ground after they have beaten Adelaide 1-0 last week...NZ at $4-10 is massvie value and over the odds on current form...Melbounre will have tired legs in the 2nd half.

Good review Adam and plenty of reasons why Adelaide should win and they are due to score a goal soon surely...The Jets were ok last week against Queensland and only sloppy defending cost them really...Jets are certainly going to miss Griffifths drive but they have Bridge up front who is proving to be a solid contributor and always looks dangerous...I think Adelaide at home should probably win but I wouldn't want to be taking under $2 on current form...They havn't scored a goal yet and they will need to score to win a game :rollin

Re: Australian A-League Round 3 So which games are looking to be over 2.5 goals guys?? For me Melbourne V KFC looks the goods, last season they had all three games go over, the thing with Melbourne this season is that they are comitting a lot of numbers forward, equaling more goals and also a defence that can be easily exploited, so this should be over 2.5 goals. CCM V QR, another that should go over 2.5, Last season Central coast let a few in at home and so far this season Queensland have knocked 6 in in two games. Central Coast are due to score in this one having none so far this season, 2-2 as a possible result for me. I think Sydney will be very defensive in their match, no Carney will make a big difference to their movement of the ball through the midfield. Jeremy Brockie is a player who needs quality balls to chase down and works more on the right flank. I see Sydney taking this one 1-0, so I am going to have a dabble at the under 2.5 for this. Sydney will really need to knuckle down and I can see them finding some form this week given the way they finished out last week. Not touching Adelaide V Newcastle game, I like the Jets to win, but only a brave punter would tip Adelaide to lose 3 on the trot, not looking at the goal line either, 0-0 or over 5 goals could be anything. ^^^^^ Beejay, maybe the shed and the red-headed step-child?

Re: Australian A-League Round 3 I'm going to try and keep a track of my tips here and see if they are profitable: So Starting Bank 100 pts: Tip 1: Perth V Sydney Taking Sydney here at $3.45 for the win straight out, the odds are just too long to back the premiership favorites to win away at Perth. Bet 10 Points to win 34.5 Tip 2: New Zealand V Melbourne I am going to take New Zealand - Draw No Bet, at $3.10 They are on a run of three games at home, have not let one goal in so far and have beaten Adelaide, which for my mind is good form. BUT the main reason I am taking NZ here is the style of game they played against Adelaide, very physical, not allowing Adelaide to have any space in the midfield. Melbourne have relyed on the small players to make their running and generate their chances, I think Melbourne could be bullied out of this one. Bet 10 Points to win 31.00 Tip 3: Game Scores over 2.5 Goals as above, I am going to take the New Zealand game and the Central Coast game for the overs here, can see a lot going in on a greasy weekend. Bet: 8 points for New Zealand V Melbourne over 2.5 goals @ $1.95 to win $15.60 Bet: 8 Points for Central Coast V Queensland Roar over 2.5 Goals @ $2.00 to win $16.00 Tip 4: Perth V Sydney First Half: Going to take the half time draw here, I think it is going to be very tight and both teams will be playing a lot of numbers behind the ball, I am seeing a low scoring game here and $2.20 for the first half is ok for me. Bet: 5 points for First Half Draw @ $2.20 to win $11.00 Tip 5: Adelaide V Newcastle: Going to take Adelaide to win here, only based on that I think they should bounce back and get into winning form here, can not see them dropping three in a row, first game back at home too should provide a boost, and there has been a home advantage so far this season (early I know but). Bet: 9 Points for Adelaide to win @ $2.00 to win $16.00 :ok A winner to start, 9 points up, :beerhere's to crappy Australian weather and a substandard Jets defence! I am loading up this week, but I will not have much time over the weekend so I am going big, going hard and going early! :drums

Like ya style Miguel, specially the going hard lol Tend to agree with all your bet reasoning and amm having a look shortly myself...might post some game reviews shortly...Fred has been suspended for 3 weeks for Victory and Allesandrio is also under an injury cloud and not expected to play, but they are leaving it till as late as possible before deciding...The draw no bet for Knights at $3-10 looks a good bet

Re: Australian A-League Round 3 Adelaide United v Newcastle Jets Date: Friday September 8 Kick-off (local time): 7.30pm Venue: Hindmarsh Stadium TV coverage: Live on Fox Sports 1 (SKY Sport 2 in NZ) Head-to-head Three league meetings: Adelaide - 2 wins, Jets - 1 win Previous meeting Newcastle 1 Adelaide 2 (EnergyAustralia Stadium, Hyundai A-League round 15, December 2005) Last five results Adelaide: Win - Win - Draw - Loss - Loss Newcastle: Loss - Loss - Loss - Draw - Loss Past 3 meetings in A League 2005/2006 Round 1 Newcastle Jets 0 - 1 Adelaide Utd Round 8 Adelaide utd 2 - 4 Newcastle Jets Round 15 Newcastle Jets 1 - 2 Adelaide Utd Analysis Nick Theodorakopoulos will be willing his luck to finally change following a winless sequence stretching to eight competitive outings since returning to top-flight club management at the Jets. In identical circumstances to that of Adelaide United's demise at the hands of the Knights, Newcastle's second consecutive draw of the season was snatched away by impressive Queensland marksman Simon Lynch with just four minutes of normal time remaining. The twin results left last season's semi-finalists languishing towards the foot of the table after two rounds. Indeed Adelaide coach John Kosmina is still searching for the premier's first goals of the follow-up season after veteran striker Carl Veart opened the Reds' Hyundai A-League account in their opening round win against Newcastle last term. The in-form Veart, who ended up scoring twice in three matches against the Jets last year, has scored three of Adelaide's five goals so far in eight competitive matches this campaign as Shengqing Qu and Fernando have eased their way back into the first team. Kosmina will hope last season's most prestigious striking partnership - which will be aided by an expected first start for Dutch winger Bobby Petta - can start firing on Friday night. Theodorakopoulos, though, has his own headaches in attack with Socceroos striker Joel Griffiths suspended and new signing Milton Rodriguez not due to arrive in Newcastle until the weekend. Also missing are Jade North (knee) and Jobe Wheelhouse (ankle) although midfielder Matt Thompson, who limped off in the 77th minute last week, is included as is defender Steve Eagleton for the first time this season. Adelaide's Michael Valkanis has failed a late fitness test on a thigh strain after being substituted last weekend. Valkanis started every one of Adelaide's 27 matches last term.

Re: Australian A-League Round 3 Central Coast Mariners v Queensland Roar Date: Saturday September 9 Kick-off (local time): 7.00pm Venue: Bluetongue Central Coast Stadium TV coverage: Live on Fox Sports 1 Head-to-head Three league meetings: 3 draws Previous meeting Queensland 0 Central Coast 0 (Toowoomba, Pre-Season Cup round four, August 2006) Last five results Central Coast: Draw - Win - Draw - Loss - Loss Queensland: Draw - Draw - Win - Win - Win Past 3 meetings in A League 2005/2006 Round 7 CCoast Mariners 2 - 2 Queensland Roar Round 14 Queensland Roar 1 - 1 CCoast Mariners Round 21 Queensland Roar 2 - 2 CCoast Mariners Analysis Encounters between the Mariners and Queensland have never been mismatches despite the pair finishing either side of the playoff cut-off point in the inaugural Hyundai A-League season. All three league clashes last term were drawn - 1-1 and 2-2 at Suncorp Stadium and 2-2 on the Central Coast - and the Roar is the only team the grand finalist has never beaten in the regular season. That said the sides have started the current campaign with contrasting fortunes both historically and versus one another. Queensland is setting the early pace after two wins in two and has turned around last season's woeful goalscoring form with six goals including a double for ace poacher Simon Lynch. Meanwhile, the Mariners - last season's joint leading scorers in the home-and-away season - prop up the table following two consecutive defeats and without a goal to their name. Coach Lawrie McKinna, still missing Nick Mrdja for at least another two weeks, will be tempted to hand Tom Pondeljak his first start after successive substitute appearances. Pondeljak may partner Stewart Petrie, who made his comeback from a hip injury last week, in attack at the expense of Adam Kwasnik. McKinna will certainly make one change to last week's starters after news veteran defender Andrew Clark is still struggling with the calf strain which forced him from the field in just the 13th minute against Perth. However, Andre Gumprecht and Wayne O'Sullivan are fit to return with John Hutchinson and Bradley Porter also named in an extended squad. Damien Brown (ankle) misses out. For Queensland, coach Miron Bleiberg's major decision is choosing between skipper Chad Gibson, who has been replaced in each of the Roar's two games this season, or hand Stuart McLaren only his second start of the year. McLaren struggled with a hamstring pull in the lead up to last week's match against the Jets but entered the fray as a half-time substitute for a disgruntled Gibson, who had previously put through his own net to level the scores. Midfielder Marcus Wedau (hamstring) is named in Bleiberg's provisional squad while Spase Dilevski (groin) is back in full training and should be available for the round four encounter with the Knights.

Re: Australian A-League Round 3 New Zealand Knights v Melbourne Victory Date: Sunday September 10 Kick-off (local time): 12.30pm Venue: North Harbour Stadium TV coverage: Live on Fox Sports 1 (SKY Sport 3 in NZ) Head-to-head Three league meetings: Melbourne - 3 wins Previous meeting Melbourne 2 New Zealand 1 (Olympic Park, Hyundai A-League round 21, February 2006) Last five results New Zealand: Loss - Loss - Loss - Draw - Win Melbourne: Win - Draw - Win - Win - Win Past 3 meetings in A League 2005/2006 Round 7 Melbourne Victory 3 - 0 New Zealand Knights Round 14 New Zealand Knights 2 - 3 Melbourne Victory Round 21 Melbourne Victory 2 - 1 New Zealand Knights Analysis The New Zealand Knights are making a mockery of the fact they are missing three influential members of their starting side with Paul Nevin's troops aiming to register their second-ever home win against Melbourne on Sunday. Despite Noah Hickey (knee), Dani Rodriguez (hamstring) and Matt Carbon (groin) all on the sidelines, the Knights sit third and are yet to concede a goal this term. Making matters worse Carbon, a veteran of almost 250 games in England's top divisions, has even been signed off for a further four weeks but that does allow former Newcastle striker Franco Parisi to join the club on a short-term deal. Parisi, who scored twice last season for the Jets and was recommended to the Knights by Richard Johnson, comes straight into contention and will push Sean Devine for starting berth. Despite his arrival, however, Nevin names the same squad of 15 for the third consecutive round. The Knights head coach has even made identical substitutions in the past two matches as he strives for the consistency lacking under previous boss John Adshead last season. The Knights welcome a Melbourne outfit in fine fettle though. Ernie Merrick's side boasts a 100 per cent record two games into the new campaign and, like New Zealand, has crucially reinforced central midfield during the off-season. For all the talk of the Victory's Brazilian triumvirate, Scotsman Grant Brebner must be close to being the first name on Merrick's team sheet. Alongside captain Kevin Muscat, who has scored from the spot in each of the past three Hyundai A-League matches, Brebner has helped transfer Melbourne's midfield into one of the most competitive in the league. Merrick loses Fred for the clash as he serves the first of a three-match suspension for violent conduct but Alessandro, who departed early against Sydney with a hip complaint and hasn't trained all week, keeps his place. Kristian Sarkies and Vince Lia are both promoted as cover.

Re: Australian A-League Round 3 Perth Glory v Sydney FC Date: Sunday September 10 Kick-off (local time): 3.00pm Venue: Members Equity Stadium TV coverage: Live on Fox Sports 1 Head-to-head Three league meetings: Sydney - 2 wins, 1 draw Previous meeting Sydney 3 Perth 0 (WIN Stadium, Pre-Season Cup round four, August 2006) Last five results Perth: Loss - Win - Loss - Loss - Win Sydney: Win - Loss - Win - Win - Loss Past 3 meetings in A League 2005/2006 Round 6 Perth Glory 1 - 2 Sydney FC Round 13 Sydney FC 0 - 0 Perth Glory Round 20 Perth Glory 1 - 2 Sydney FC Analysis Perth Glory coach Ron Smith might have some sympathy for the predicament Sydney FC counterpart Terry Butcher finds himself in just three weeks into the new Hyundai A-League season. With Smith beginning to welcome back the majority of his squad from injury and illness, Butcher is missing a host of first-team regulars for Sunday afternoon's trip to Members Equity Stadium. Sydney's absentee list, which has included long-term injury victim Jacob Timpano (groin) for some time, now also boasts the names of David Carney and Robbie Middleby. Carney underwent shoulder surgery in midweek while Middleby broke his collarbone in last weekend's match with Melbourne Victory and faces up to three months on the sidelines. When you also factor in the departure of Dwight Yorke, skipper Mark Rudan's one-match ban and the ankle trouble suffered by Alex Brosque, who scored twice in the Hyundai A-League Pre-Season Cup match with Perth, Sydney is down to just 14 available players. That includes short-term signing Matthew Bingley, who made 13 starts for the reigning champion last season, and who Butcher names in the travelling party alongside the returning Ruben Zadkovich. Zadkovich has timed his recovery from a knee injury to perfection after missing all of pre-season. Perth has only Bobby Despotovski (back) and Mark Robertson (groin) unavailable so Smith names the same squad of 15 following his first full week of training and recovery in Western Australia. The Glory coach even has the luxury of recalling first choice goalkeeper Jason Petkovic after an ankle injury. New Zealander Leo Bertos, who set up Perth's second goal last week, impressed local fans on his home league debut and looks set to continue in an attacking three-man frontline with Stuart Young and Stan Lazaridis.

Re: Australian A-League Round 3 Hey Miguel, id be careful with backing the NZ/Melb game to finish over 2.5 goals. I like all your reasoning and it all makes sense, but both Melbourne & New Zealands defence have been very good this year. New Zealand have only scored 1 goal in two games whilst they are yet to concede. If anything id be backing this one to finish under. Maybe 0-0 or 1-1

It has been over a month since United has played in the familiar surroundings of Hindmarsh Stadium and after a solid week on the track, coach John Kosmina believes the players are ready to go...And I do too! The Jets have Griffith out this week and he is a big loss because he has been providing plenty of drive and will be missed as an attacking option...More will be asked of Mark Bridge and if United can maintain him defensively then I believe the Jets will struggle to score...Carle has been great in the midfield for Newcastle but hopefully his mind will be on his newborn baby boy who arrived this week. Adelaide had a great Home record last season and have only lost one of there last 8 at home and after a few games away they will be fresh and keen to do well in their first game at home tonight...Kosmina said this week that the players were getting a little jaded with all the travel recently but that the players looked hungry and ready to go this week. I am opting for a -1 Handicap with draw on Adelaide at $3-55 at Centrebet and think it is good value because Adelaide are raring to go...They are too good of a team to stay goaless and down the bottom of the ladder...At worst I feel it could result in a draw if Adelaide still struggle to score and the draw is paying $3-30. Bet Adelaide United -1 handicap with draw $3-55 Adelaide United/Newcastle Jets saver on the draw $3-30

Re: Australian A-League Round 3

Prefer the 2-0 or 3-1 Ads if ya don't mind :loon
Yeh a possibilty too, but my logic is that Adelaide are yet to find the back of the net and if they win, which i think they will, I dont think it will be by much. If they get a 1 goal lead early they will try and defend that lead for the match i think, if they happen to concede they will try and get their lead back. They are very capable of defending too. They had their fair share of 1 goal wins last year

Good points raised Ads and on further checking Adelaide only won the one game by 2 goals last year so the -1 handicap with draw is not looking so hot now if past history is anything to go by...tho last year was a glutton of away wins and this year there has only been one in eight and that was Queensland.

Re: Australian A-League Round 3 Adelaide off the mark after only 8 minutes. Fernando Rech the goal scorer. Adelaide had a free kick just outside the box and Rech clipped it on on the half volley, a brilliant effort really. Adelaide absolutely dominating at the moment, if it keeps up this way the Jets could be looking for a real drumming

Re: Australian A-League Round 3 I had a dabble at Veart to be the first goal scorer at $7.50 so annoyed that Rech scored the goal. Hopefully it stays 1-0 now, but the way its going Adelaide could make it 3 or 4 to nil. Its raining non-stop so maybe they will just defend now
