Gutted about this lost loadsa Anti post money on it never mind it's won me loads in the past Trabolgan ruled out for the rest of the season by Rodney Masters TRABOLGAN, 13-2 third favourite with sponsors Totesport for the Cheltenham Gold Cup, was on Friday ruled out of action for the rest of the season due to the injury to his near-fore tendon which surfaced following his brilliant victory at Newbury last month. However, the leg will not require surgery and connections remain confident their winner of the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup will return as good as ever next term. After studying vet James Maine’s report following another ultrasound scan on Friday, Nicky Henderson and owner Trevor Hemmings agreed to implement a policy of patience and put on hold Trabolgan’s first Cheltenham Gold Cup challenge until 2007. Henderson said: “We’ve decided to bite the bullet and to leave Trabolgan alone for the rest of this season. While it’s disappointing, we know he’s very talented, and, as he’s a young horse, we can look forward to the future.†The trainer added: “After 10 days of exercise, nothing changed and the leg feels fine with no heat. The tendon is 98 per cent right, but the shortfall was sufficient to give our vets some concern as regards to pressing on with a campaign for this winter. Surgery is not required, and now it’s just a question of rest. When the time is right he’ll be turned out and, as always, he’ll spend his summer at the owner’s home in Lancashire. “If he had remained in training to prepare for the Gold Cup, there was always the potential risk a problem would have occurred in February, and that would likely mean him missing a major part of next season.†A three-length winner of last season’s Royal & SunAlliance Novices at the Cheltenham Festival, Trabolgan returned to action with such a convincing show of power under-top weight to win the Hennessy - his trainer’s first success in the feature - that he became a leading fancy for the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Although he come home sound and initially all seemed fine with the horse as he returned to cantering, some warmth and tenderness was identified in the near-fore ten days after Newbury and ascan revealed mild changes within the tendon fibre pattern, leading Henderson to abort a plan to run him in the Stan James King George VI Chase on Boxing Day.
