Dear Fellow Baskelites, It has been my good fortune to peruse the rules regarding the Daily Racing Comp, and mightily impressed was I(and Homles) by the winners until I discovered that this wretched system awards points for horses coming second and third.Correct me If I am mistaken in my observational endeavours but makers of the book pay out a pittance for beasts of the turf that do not secure a winning first. To award points to partakers of the competition simply by their dexterity at picking losers flies in the face of all racing logic, and renders the competition quite useless. Could some kind fellow enlighten me as to the sense of this apparant futile activity, both myself and Holmes believe that the only way to measure dexterity at the ancient craft of picking winners is simply by level stake wins and nothing else. If you went to an accountant of the turf and requested full payment for a horse that came third he would point you in the opposite direction and with many a well chosen expletive, accompanying his pointed toe up your behind, suggest that you make yourself scarce, rendering a return and a duplication of your original request extrememly unlikely. Why not have a compo based simply on winner finding and do away with all these idiotic divisions that hint of that awful game that they call soccer. Baskerville Moon
