Computer straight forecasts

I've never placed one of these, and probably never will, but I was curious: Is the formula used to calculate the payout public? If so, where can it be found? And depending on exactly how the formula works, this might not make sense, but is it possible to take early/board prices on a CSF?

Re: Computer straight forecasts Forecasts - on course - are tote based - that is, they are a pool which has the commission taken out, then the rest is divided equally through all winners. So it isn't possible to take the odds at any stage (and odds that are displayed are ridiculous early - if you could take odds, we'd all be rich!!!). The displayed odds are just a projection, based on the bets that have been placed so far...... Is that what you mean by a "computer" straight forecast?
