Races Of The Week - Challow Hurdle & Relkeel Hurdle

1.50 Newbury: Challow Hurdle (Grade 1) (2m4f 118yds)

Some cracking novices have won this in the past and most of them went on to make pretty good chasers. The likes of Denman, Wichita Lineman, Fingal Bay, Diamond Harry and Taquin De Seuil. Last year it was won by Barters Hill who unfortunately was injured on his chasing debut recently.

3.10 Cheltenham: Relkeel Hurdle (Grade 2) (2m4f 56yds)

ITV kick off their coverage of UK Racing on New Years Day and will be at Cheltenham for four races which features the Grade 2 Relkeel Hurdle.

Being over the Intermediate trip of 2m4f this race has been left to the "second division hurdlers' in the past although Rock On Ruby did come here in 2014 after he had won the Champion Hurdle and won it at the age of 9, the oldest winner in recent times. A mark of around 160 has still been needed to secure the prize although we had a slight upset last season when Camping Ground came out on top. The race was run on heavy ground and one or two well fancied runners failed to act on the surface.
