What is a system?

I thought i'd start this thread after reading sco's post on his 'gut feeling' system. As far as i can see the system is simply pick whatever you think will win, with a similarly open staking plan. The question is 'Is this a system?' IMHO a system is a set of rules for selecting bets that completely bypasses the need for any personal assesment of the chances of any particular outcome. So my own personal feeling is that sco's system is not actually a system at all. This is not a criticism of Sco whatsoever (just using you as an example:ok) there's room here for everyone, however it would be interesting to see other peoples opinions on what does and doesn't constitute a system, and what can and can't be classed as a system.

Re: What is a system? I'd agree with what you've said but anything that's not a system falls into the description of a strategy, even if it has very loose rules. Most of the "systems" posted here are strategies but that doesn't stop some of them being very successful.
