To specialise or not to specialise?

Hi chaps, Ive been having a bit of a break from gambling of late, I've still been watching the racing but have just kept my wallet in my pocket. Anyway, it got me thinking. In the past when betting, I have just selected a race, maybe a channel 4 race or another race that I like the look of, looked at the form/watched some races and gone from there, but surely, I'm now thinking that's not helping me at all is it.... Rather than going from a 5f sprint on the AW to a 1m4f at York to a 3m chase at Wetherby, where due to time/life/work/family, it's just not possible for me to know as much as I'd like about the completely different horses, I'm thinking I should be, for betting purposes, specialising in say 5 and 6f sprint handicaps on the AW and just watching the big channel 4 races for fun. Do any of you chaps 'specialise' and thus give yourself a better chance of success?

Re: To specialise or not to specialise? I've always enjoyed the jumps most. We all generally find one kind of bet suits us best and is more successful than others. Fortunately I'm more succesful at the jumps - so now only take a very quick look for possible selections on the flat - and then it's generally just Maiden Stakes races. The puzzle of a big field handicap does not appeal. Improve chance of success by NOT having a bet "just because it's a big race on TV on a Saturday". Ascot Champions Day was a perfect example of "forcing bets beacuse we fancy a little action". Not one winner for me. I know this but seem to keep ignoring it.
