15:15 Brighton 7f 214yds Class 6 John Jack Brodrick Memorial Handicap Selection: Pour La Victoire – 11/4 SportingBet The first selection today comes in Brighton’s 15.15 where Pour La Victorie can make it 2 out of 2 over course and distance after scoring here earlier this month. That win came off a 2lb lower mark, but the useful apprentice jockey Oisin Murphy takes the ride here claiming 7lb which effectively puts him on the same mark as 5lb claimer Robert Tart rode him to victory previously. Prior to his Brighton win he came close to his first career win when 2nd over 7f on the all weather at Wolverhampton. He finished 2 3/4 lengths behind the winner, Moma Lee, but didn’t have the clearest of runs and may of finished closer to the winner with an easier passage through the field. Moma Lee has since gone on to win in better company since that race which suggests the form of the Wolverhampton race is strong enough for Pour La Victoire to win this contest. The Sir Mark Prescott trained North Pole may be the biggest danger to our selection, he finished 2nd in a Class 5 maiden last time out at Ffos Las over a mile and with Luke Morris on board and on an unchanged mark of 63 he has to be in with a chance, but he may prefer slightly further in distance.

Re: Tuesday 20th August 2013 Flat Racing 17:00 Leicester 5f 2yds Class 5 Widmerpool Maiden Auction Fillies Stakes Selection: Kanz – 15/8 BetVictor This contest looks set to be between two promising 2-year-old’s, Shilla and the selection, Kanz. With slightly more racecourse experience, we have seen more of Kanz who ran well enough on debut when finishing 7th of 15 at Newbury over 6f in a decent looking Class 4 contest. The race was won by J Wonder who followed up that success by winning a Class 2 race at Newmarket next time out. Following that race, Kanz was sent to Glorious Goodwood to compete in the Class 2 Markel Insurance Maiden Stakes over 6f. Despite finishing back in 6th she was only 4 lengths behind the winner Valonia, and a 1 1/2 lengths behind Autumn Sunrise who beat Shilla next time out by the same margin. Last time out Kanz was dropped back to the 5f trip and also dropped down in class when she was involved in a Class 5 race at Chepstow. She was sent off the 4/6 favourite and it looked an ideal opportunity for her to gain her first career win, however she was ridden about 2f from the finish and couldn’t go the pace of the winner, Heavens Edge, who stayed on strongly to beat Kanz by 2 1/2 lengths. It was a disappointing effort from Kanz last time out but her previous efforts suggest that she is capable of winning this race and she is open to further improvement and it may be worth taking another chance of the Mick Channon trained filly to finally get into the winners enclosure. Shilla only has the one run to her name, that came at Windsor earlier this month when she finished 2nd over 5f in a Class 5 contest, being beaten 1 1/2 lengths by Autumn Sunrise as previously mentioned. She is likely to improve for that effort but she did seem to struggle to go with the winner and seemed to stay on best towards the finish and she may appreciate a slight step up in trip, but cannot be ruled out here.
