Horse Ratings

Recommended Posts

If anyone understands race ratings and how they work I would appreciate if you could let me in on your secrets please. I do not understand how they relate to weight carried but do realise that every horse has a different rating after every race and that 1 pound = approximately 1 length. It is to try and help in working out handicaps but I also realise that draw bias can enter into it as can ground when you consider the ratings. Thanks Joe

Re: Horse Ratings Im in a pub so shall try to answer this basically with other people jumping in to help you more. A handicap is designed for every horse to finish on the line together. Say a 0-65 handicap with race designed so top weight carries 9stone 10 lbs. Therefore horse rated 65 carries 9 10 horse rated64 carrying 9 stone 9 etc. But you will find the bottom end of a handicap hires may be rated 45 but the weighing scale only goes down to 49 so that horse is 4pm out the handicap. Of course trainers don't like taking risks on there horse finishing in a blanket finish. So some nay run their horse on tracks, going and distance not suited for their horse get the Mark down and when they think they have a better than blanket finish chance run the horse on the right track, going and distance. Hopefully more people will help you but that is the basic jist.
