Re: Australian Open 8-14 Jul Tournament preview: 1pt ew R.Milkins to win Australian Open 40/1 Paddy Power (1/2 1-2) Defending champion Barry Hawkins is in the top half of the draw as are Ding Junhui and Shaun Murphy but this could be the week Robert Milkins arrives as a major tournament winner. Milkins was a semi finalist in the Wuxi Classic last month and having made a couple of major quarter finals last season we know he is ready to win a tournament. Milkins has a win over John Higgins in an Asian PTC this season so he’s hitting the cue ball nicely and at 40/1 he looks a good bet this week. Re: Australian Open 8-14 Jul 4th quarter preview: 2pts M.Davis to win 4th Quarter 11/2 Bet365 One man who made the semi final last year is Mark Davis and we’ve seen him go to the semi finals of the UK Championship since then. Davis is enjoying the autumn of his career and is a very good player now. He has a good record in Australia because two years ago he beat Judd Trump there so he’s more than capable of coming through this section. He won’t face Selby until the quarter final so the Sussex man looks good value in the bottom quarter. Re: Australian Open 8-14 Jul Monday morning early previews: 3pts M.Dunn (-2.5 frames) to beat S.Mifsud 5/6 Skybet Mike Dunn was a 5-2 winner over Peter Ebdon to get into this tournament and a repeat of that performance should be more than enough to get him into the first round proper. It would be only natural for the Australian wildcard to struggle for the first few frames with the fast conditions alien to him and everyone will be wanting him to win as well. Mike Dunn is pretty experienced and should come through unscathed. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/dunn-vs-mifsud-betting-mike-dunn-can-end-the-hopes-of-the-wildcard-in-australia-20130707 4pts D.Poomjaeng (+2.5 frames) to beat B.Hawkins 8/11 Stan James Barry Hawkins should come through this match but there’s a lot of pressure on him as defending champion whereas Poomjaeng can almost freeroll here as nobody expects him to win. That’s when the Thai player can be at his most dangerous, as we saw in the World Championship so while I’d still expect Hawkins to be too strong, particularly should the match go all the way, I do think Poomjaeng can win three frames and keep the champion honest. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/hawkins-vs-poomjaeng-betting-dechawat-poomjaeng-can-push-hawkins-close-in-bendigo-20130707 4pts R.Day to beat T.Ford 4/5 Coral Ryan Day looks about the right price but I do think he’ll win this match. Tom Ford is very good in the PTC events but he hasn’t transferred that into the major tournaments too often. Day has played a lot more matches this season which might be a factor in this match and Ford is still very much hit or miss. I also favour Day if it gets tight so it is the Welshman for me. Re: Australian Open 8-14 Jul Monday later game previews: 4pts M.Gould vs J.Cope - Over 7.5 frames 4/5 Paddy Power These two are very similar in the way they go about the game. Both go for their shots which makes picking a winner difficult. All their previous matches have been tight and there’s nothing to suggest this one won’t be tight as well. Unless one of them has a complete mare this should be very tight because both give the other chances so I would expect to see at least eight frames in this match. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/gould-vs-cope-betting-two-evenly-matched-players-can-produce-a-tight-game-in-bendigo-20130707 3pts N.Saengkham (+2.5 frames) to beat S.Bingham 19/20 Boylesports If Saengkham can get used to the conditions quickly enough then he could well push Bingham close here. If you win the Asian under 21 event then you must be capable of holding a cue. One thing Saengkham will have as an advantage is he will be used to the heat out there and won’t have had the travelling Bingham has had to get out there. I don’t think he’ll win but he can push Bingham close. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/bingham-vs-saengkham-betting-asian-under-21-champion-can-cause-bingham-problems-in-australia-20130707 4pts N.Robertson (-2.5 frames) to beat M.Campbell 8/11 Boylesports These two have met three times in competition and Robertson has won all three with a bit to spare and I would expect him to win this match as well. How easily he wins this match remains to be seen. What will be interesting is whether he can cope with the expectation of the crowds, as similar to Ding in China, Robertson’s record in Australia is pretty poor. Robertson usually starts seasons poorly but that’s not the case this season and his form is good enough to warrant taking him on the handicap. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/robertson-vs-campbell-betting-neil-robertson-can-please-the-home-crowds-in-the-first-round-20130708 4pts A.Higginson (-1.5 frames) to beat A.Zhang 17/20 Boylesports Andrew Higginson should be too strong for Zhang here. Higginson has a good all round game and that should see him through. Zhang is a little all or nothing and isn’t used to the TV lights and the big stage and that is likely to have an effect on him. Higginson has seen it all before and he’ll feel he has a chance of a good run this week. That can begin with an easy enough opener here. Re: Australian Open 8-14 Jul Tuesday early match previews: 3pts D.Dale (-1.5 frames) to beat M.Dunn 11/10 Ladbrokes Dominic Dale should have too much for Mike Dunn in this match. Dunn struggled in the wildcard round, although a lot of that would be mental having already qualified for the tournament only to effectively have to qualify again. Dunn would have had everything to lose in that match but he has just as much to lose here as he could have had a much harder draw. Despite that I think Dale will have too much. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/dale-vs-dunn-betting-dominic-dale-should-have-too-much-for-dunn-in-australia-20130708 4pts R.Walden vs F.O'Brien - Over 7.5 frames 10/11 Paddy Power Fergal O’Brien had a good run in the Bulgarian Open so we know he’s in good form and I expect to see a much better performance from Walden in this tournament so this match has all the ingredients of being quite tight. O’Brien only lost 5-3 to Barry Hawkins in Wuxi so he still has that ability to be hard to beat and given that these two are fairly similar I expect to see this one end 5-3 or 5-4 either way. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/walden-vs-o-brien-betting-ricky-walden-can-expect-a-tough-tussle-with-fergal-in-australia-opener-20130708 3pts M.White to beat S.Murphy 7/4 Stan James Michael White is worth a go here I think. He’s playing well and he knocked in a big century in the wildcard game so he’s obviously in good touch. Murphy is a class act but he can struggle in the early rounds and isn’t always the most fluent. I understand he is playing with a new cue this week too which seems a pretty strange thing to do so all things considered I like White here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/murphy-vs-white-betting-michael-white-can-upset-murphy-in-australia-20130708 4pts J.Perry (-1.5 frames) to beat X.Guodong 10/11 Ladbrokes I like the way Joe Perry is playing at the minute and I would expect him to come through this with a bit to spare. Guodong is a talented player but his all round game isn’t quite there yet. It is no surprise when these two met for the only time last year that Perry won 4-0. This may not be that easy but I think the Englishman will win this no worse than 5-3. Re: Australian Open 8-14 Jul Tuesday later game previews: 3pts M.Selby vs I.Burns to have ONE century 8/5 Bet365 Mark Selby should win this but it is not worth risking any handicaps or anything because we don’t know quite what form either man is in. One thing I do think we’ll see regardless of form is a century in the match. Selby is a very heavy scorer while Burns can bang in the breaks too. This is a best of nine and it should be quite one sided so exactly one century has a nice look about it. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/selby-vs-burns-betting-mark-selby-can-produce-a-century-in-opening-round-match-20130708 4pts M.Holt vs A.Burden - Over 7.5 frames 5/6 Paddy Power I think this will be a close match. The two are fairly evenly matched, as they showed in Welsh Open qualifying last year. Burden is more likely to win frames in one visit while Holt will win the scrappier frames so there should be plenty of mileage in this one for the Australian crowds. However this one goes I don’t see it ending any wider than 5-3 either way. Re: Australian Open 8-14 Jul Wednesday early game previews: 4pts M.Fu vs K.Doherty - Over 7.5 frames 10/11 Paddy Power I think this will be a close match. Both men are tough to beat and both are good students of the tactical game so I expect to see a lot of safety here. Fu’s heavier scoring will probably see him through in the end but I don’t think it will be before a marathon battle. It is hard to see this one not ending 5-3 or 5-4 either way so I like the look of over 7.5 frames here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/fu-vs-doherty-betting-expect-a-close-battle-between-two-seasoned-professionals-20130709 3pts M.Davis (-2.5 frames) to beat P.Davison 23/20 Boylesports Davison is capable but if Mark Davis wants to do anything in this tournament this is a match he should be winning comfortably, and I think he will do that. Davis scores strongly and his safety game is very good. He beat John Higgins a couple of times last season in big tournaments so we know he has a quality game and if he produces his best here he’ll come through no problem. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/davis-vs-davison-betting-mark-davis-shouldn-t-have-too-many-problems-in-australian-first-round-20130709 4pts R.Milkins (-1.5 frames) to beat B.Woollaston 10/11 Bet365 I’m a real fan of Robert Milkins. People used to think that because he is so quick he didn’t play the right shot but he quite often does, he is just so naturally talented that he sees it the right way. What he is doing now is playing those shots with a lot more quality and effectiveness and it is paying dividends. I think he’ll win this and I think he’ll win it with a frame in hand. Re: Australian Open 8-14 Jul Wednesday late game previews: 4pts D.Dale to beat F.O'Brien 5/6 Ladbrokes I think this will be a tight match, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this needs a deciding frame to separate the two but I think Dale will be just that little bit too strong. He scores better than Fergal and that can be the key because Dale knows all the safety tricks. When these two met in a PTC last season Dale won 4-0 and I think he’ll win this match as well. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/o-brien-vs-dale-betting-dominic-dale-can-be-the-first-into-the-quarters-in-australia-20130709 3pts J.Cope (+2.5 frames) to beat N.Robertson 11/10 BetVictor I would expect Neil Robertson to win this match but the tighter it gets the harder he might end up trying which is when it can go tits up so maybe Cope with the 2.5 frame head start is the way to go in this one. I’m no massive fan of Cope’s game but he played well against Gould in the first round and if he gets chances he’ll take them so I’ll take him to win at least three frames if not the full five. Re: Australian Open 8-14 Jul Thursday early game previews: 4pts B.Hawkins (-1.5 frames) to beat T.Ford 4/6 Bet365 Barry Hawkins is often hard to beat when he scores well because he knows how to keep things tight. Ford doesn’t. He only knows one way and that is all out attack, which is fine when he is on song but when he isn’t he leaves himself wide open for his opponent to clear up. Hawkins won’t miss such chances so I like the defending champion in this match. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/hawkins-vs-ford-betting-barry-hawkins-can-move-comfortably-into-the-quarter-finals-20130710 4pts R.Milkins (-1.5 frames) to beat R.McLeod 3/4 Boylesports McLeod has been lucky and unlucky with Ding’s withdrawal in the first round. Obviously on the plus side he’s gone through without playing and earned a nice bit of coin but he could have done with some match practice ahead of a game against a tough opponent who is on top of his game right now. Milkins is playing very well at the minute and more importantly he is scoring well so he is hard to beat and as long as he doesn’t become frustrated he should win this match. Re: Australian Open 8-14 Jul Thursday later game previews: 4pts J.Perry vs S.Bingham - Over 7.5 frames 4/5 Paddy Power I think we’ll get a close match between these two. Both are playing well in the main even though neither produced top form in the first round and both are similar players. Both like to get in the balls and score but they can both bide their time and wait for their chances to come. This has the look of a tight game on paper and I think it will play out like that on the baize so I think we’ll see at least nine frames here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/perry-vs-bingham-betting-expect-to-see-a-tight-game-between-two-good-players-20130710 3pts S.Murphy (-1.5 frames) to beat M.Fu 9/10 Boylesports I like Murphy here. When he’s cueing like he is at the minute he is very dangerous and it often takes a top player on top form to stop him. I’m not saying Fu isn’t a top player but he isn’t a Higgins, Robertson or Selby type player and for that reason I think the Englishman can win this match. He has a good recent record against the man from Hong Kong and that can continue here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/fu-vs-murphy-betting-shaun-murphy-looks-in-the-mood-to-beat-fu-once-again-20130710 4pts M.Davis vs A.Burden - Over 7.5 frames 5/6 Paddy Power I think we’ll see another close match here. Both look in good nick if their first round wins are anything to go by and both are battlers and will fight until the last ball is potted. Davis had to come through a marathon in the first round but that won’t have done him any harm. Burden will have taken a lot of confidence from his win over Holt so a close match awaits us here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/davis-vs-burden-betting-this-second-round-match-could-be-closer-than-the-rankings-would-suggest-20130710 3pts A.Zhang (+2.5 frames) to beat M.Selby 11/10 Ladbrokes I think Anda Zhang could be getting Selby at a good time. The former world number one hasn’t looked himself for a while. He complained of burnout at the end of last season and he has begun this season quite flat save for one tournament. Zhang has nothing to lose here and if he can score like he did against Higginson then he can cause Selby problems. There’s no reason if he scores well why he can’t pinch three frames here. Re: Australian Open 8-14 Jul Friday early QF previews: 4pts M.Fu (-1.5 frames) to beat D.Dale 5/6 Bet365 Marco Fu has played very well in this tournament and I’ve a feeling he’ll be a bit too strong for Dale in this match. Fu has beaten a high in confidence Murphy and the way he didn’t panic when he was 2-0 down was very good and that shows us that he’s up for the job this week. Dale has dug in well too but Fu has that little extra quality to see him through. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/fu-vs-dale-betting-marco-fu-has-what-it-takes-to-make-another-semi-final-20130711 3pts M.Davis vs M.Selby - Over 7.5 frames 11/10 BetVictor Mark Selby has an excellent record against Mark Davis but Davis has run the Leicester man close on a few occasions and I think this could be another of those occasions. Davis has nothing to lose here but he’s been playing the best snooker of his career in the last 12 months and eventually he’ll get over the line against Selby. Selby is improving this week but still isn’t quite at his best so I think we’ll see a tight match here, one that ends 5-3 or 5-4 either way. Re: Australian Open 8-14 Jul Friday later QF previews: 4pts J.Perry vs N.Robertson - Over 7.5 frames 11/10 Paddy Power I think this promises to be an excellent match. When the two met in the Shanghai Masters last year Perry won 5-0 so we know he can deal with Robertson. Robertson has a couple of big wins over Perry on his record too. This time the two meet when both are going well and with that in mind I think we’ll get a naturally tighter match given the round we’re at so I like over 7.5 frames here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/robertson-vs-perry-betting-home-crowd-likely-to-be-treated-to-a-tight-quarter-final-20130711 4pts R.Milkins (-1.5 frames) to beat T.Ford 11/10 Coral Milkins is playing really well at the minute and I would expect him to be a little bit too good for Tom Ford. Ford has done well to get this far but he isn’t winning as many frames in one visit as we are used to and he’ll need to do that here if he is to progress because Milkins is scoring very heavily. Milkins is becoming a regular in the latter stages of the tournament so he should be less nervous and I think he’ll win with a bit in hand. Re: Australian Open 8-14 Jul Semi final previews: 4pts M.Fu vs R.Milkins - Over 9.5 frames 11/10 Paddy Power Both men are playing well and both will be desperate to win so I see this being quite a close semi final. Both men have shown in this tournament already that they can win frames in one visit but they’ve also shown that they can scrap frames out if they need to so I don’t see either thrashing the other so I would expect to see at least ten frames here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/milkins-vs-fu-betting-opening-semi-final-can-be-close-throughout-20130712 4pts N.Robertson to beat M.Selby 4/5 William Hill On the balance of what we’ve seen this week so far I think Robertson is a worthy favourite and I think he is worth backing to make a third final of the season. He made the final in Bulgaria and then won in Wuxi and he would love to win this title in front of his fellow Australians too. Selby will fight and scrap but the better snooker has come from Robertson in this tournament so he is the bet here. Re: Australian Open 8-14 Jul Final preview: 4pts N.Robertson (-2.5 frames) to beat M.Fu 8/11 Skybet On what we’ve seen this week I think Robertson will win this final and I fancy he’ll win it a shade comfortably too. He is playing wonderful snooker at the minute and if Mark Selby can’t find a way to stop him then it is hard to see anyone doing it. Marco Fu has scrapped hard this week but he’ll need more than just being able to scrap in this final and if he doesn’t score strongly then Robertson will be far too good.
