Spotting a system

Recommended Posts

Firstly, my main interest is British jumps. I enjoy it most, but also I've been somewhat unsuccessful with flat or Irish jumps. I have developed a system for British jumps, but that's a story for another day. It seems to be running very slightly better than break even - but that's OK as I get my entertainment. I'm not the kind of person to study long-term form, so most selections are based on the newspaper. This is something I might have spotted watching today's racing from Brighton and Lingfield on ATR. It seems like it might give a few good priced winners on the flat. It goes like this. Morning paper (Daily Mail) clear favourite that is totally unloved at racetime. Two clear examples today: 1. 4.50 Lingfield. Jive is 5/2 fav in paper. Wins nicely at 7/1. 2. 5.30 Brighton. Yojojo is 2/1 fav in paper. Wins nicely at 7/2. Any comments / criticisms. Be brutal. Cheers.

Re: Spotting a system Firstly you shouldn't have mentioned you read the daily mail :eek You will now be chastised by some as if you are the spawn of satan himself ;) :lol Joking aside, I cant comment on your picks above as I dont have any past data on the selection process. But saying that, around 1995-98 ish not sure of the year exactly there was a booklet sold which gave several systems based on the ratings in the various newspapers of the day. The missus had a pub then and used to get all the papers and have them on the bar, so I'd sit down and go through all these system, then if there were any selections go and put them on at the bookies round the corner. After sorting the wheat from the chaff there was one in there I used to good effect which used the DM 78 (Blackspot). Rules (All races.Flat,NH except amateur, apprentice or lady riders only and NH flat) From remaining races... 1)Find the horse that has run the least number of days since its last win 2)Must be top rated 78 (blackspot) 3)Must be SF or F (strongly fancied or fancied) Thats it, That used to give me at least one bet a day at the time which I was happy with, I later changed the rules to any horse that had won 7 days ago or less that complied with rules 2 and 3 above so if there were more than 1 horse I would have them in singles doubles, trebles etc Had some nice pick ups ;) Not looked at the DM for years so dont know if they still do SF or F after the horse but if they do it might be worth giving it a paper trial for a bit you never know. Good luck anyway :ok
