CAULFIELD RACE 3 @ 12:35pm AEST: The Catanach's Jewellers Handicap is a 2380m race for horses rated up to 95 where the 3.20 favourite with Bet365 is SHINY BUTTONS. HOW THE RACE WILL BE RUN: Small field with only two potential leaders, they are READINGS and RED EYE SPECIAL. SHINY BUTTONS and FINIGUERRA settle handy from COUP ACCLAIM and VERDANT. DEVISED and MONKEY BRISCOE will settle at the tail of the field. Looks a race where all runners will get their chance barring bad luck or track bias. RACE ANALYSIS: VERDANT has been ticking over very nicely for a 2400m race and this looks the perfect opportunity for him to register his first victory this preparation. He comes into this race having the fifth start of his campaign and all bar one of his starts has been good. Last start he was ridden quiet after being handy in his previous 3 starts and this seemed to switch him on as he ran a very encouraging last 400m to run 2^nd to iron horse Whisper Downs. CAULFIELD RACE 7 @ 2:57pm AEST: The Responsible Gambling Awareness Week Handicap for fillies and mares where the 3.3 favourite with Luxbet is SERENE STAR. HOW THE RACE WILL BE RUN: The speed looks pretty good here. 3 potential leaders and they are CLASSY CHLOE, RIVIERE, and ANABAS LEGACY. GYBE and MAYATAS PRIDE will be up there too from YOU CAN DANCE and OH TEARY ME. The remainder of the field settle midfield or beyond in a race where all runners will get their chance barring bad luck and track bias. RACE ANALYSIS: SERENE STAR is a model of consistency and a very smart sprinter, and if she gets even luck should be countering for this field. She resumed from a 24 week break and a considerable betting drift to win a mares handicap with a barnstorming run down the middle of the track. She then stepped up 100m to the 1200m where she made a last gasp run at Elite Elle who had been gifted a soft run in front, she just missed catching her but lost no admirers in the process. Today she meets a similar field but the likelihood of more speed on paper can only enhance her chances. She does get back in the run which is never a great pattern to have, but the fact she has only been out of the top 3 4 times in her career with a 50% winning strike rate offsets that somewhat. BONNIE MAC has shown she is back in some form with two nice runs after an 8 week freshen.
