Flat Racing 22nd April

Recommended Posts

Time becoming a bit of an issue due to new job so gonna stick to short sweet reasons for the summer. 3.10 Pontefract Colonel Mak might be worth risking in this competitive handicap, he won a big field handicap last year at Doncaster and also a conditional race at Hamilton later in the season. He has shaped as if in need of a run on last 2 starts and he did take a couple runs last year to come to himself. He last won off a 6lb higher mark and placed at Newmarket in the big Qatar handicap on Guineas day off a 12b higher mark so he looks very well treated. Good ground will suit and his only run to date here resulted in a close 2nd in his younger days and this represents an easier task than his last 2 runs and yard has been amongst the winners so would be no surprise to see him go well. 1pt e/w Colonel Mak 16/1 hills 8.50 Wolverhampton Qeethaara proved hugely frustrating this season she often runs her race but finds 1 or 2 too good or under performs on the back of a better effort. She usually holds her form well in the past and that has been true again recently getting her head back in front in style last time out. Aslong as they go a good pace again she will be a huge threat again and although no confirmed front runner there are a few that like to sit prominently so should be ok and the fact she creeps in to this handicap at bottom against all her own sex should mean a 6lb rise is more than fair and at her best she has won 12lb higher marks. 2pt win Qeethaara 9/4 paddy

Re: Flat Racing 22nd April 7.30 Windsor Only 10 runners & a few in with chances. However, I want to oppose Aldwick Bay despite hailing from the Hannon yard with Hughes up top. Doesn't appear to have that much in hand of his current mark so 3/1 is too short whilst the handicap debutant, Guising, appears overrated despite a 7L maiden win. That race was poor & the favourite ran very green. Open to improvement but will have to improve markedly, I feel. The one is like in Angel Gabrial & I was surprised to see it priced up at 11/1. That looks way too big on all known form. Admittedly it's never won over 1m4f but its wins at shorter suggested it needed the extra quarter mile. Whilst form figures don't appear to back that up, closer examination suggest otherwise. Running on very well at the end of it's Ascot race & saw the trip out well at Newmarket despite pulling hard with the slow pace. Seasonal reappearance saw the step up in trip against the horse in addition to the fact it was trapped out wide throughout. Won 4 starts ago off 1lb lower but that was in a race 2 grades higher than today's. Dropped down in grade (won only previous start in this grade) and eased 2lb in the weights whilst being reunited with a jockey that's 1 from 1 on the horse. Will need a fast pace but I think the horse will get that & the smallish field should negate any likelihood of traffic problems. Trainer's horses are running well with some big priced placed horses recently & ground should be fine too. Wins have been on better going but trainer has openly said the horse doesn't want it too quick. Lots of recommend this horse & whilst rivals are in good form, I think this is the classiest horse in the field & should go well down in trip, mark & grade. Angel Gabrial, EW @ 11/1 William Hill
