MOONEE VALLEY RACE 6 @ 9:15pm AEDT: The Alister Clark Stakes is a 2000m Group 2 race for 3 year olds where the 3.30 favourite with Sportsbet is HVASSTAN. HOW THE RACE WILL BE RUN: Doesn’t look much speed at all here. SHEER TALENT probably leads from GREEN ROLLER. BASS STRAIGHT and HVASSTAN drawn together in barriers 2 and 3 may settle next with PHILIPPI and GENTORIOUS next in line and the rank outsider SOLDIERS MARCH at the rear. Looks a tactical battle where the smartest ride may prove the winner. RACE ANALYSIS: 4 of the Australian Guineas runners meet here and remarkably only 2.6 lengths separated the 4 runners and they finished between 3^rd and 6^th at the line. Arguably PHILIPPI who finished 6^th should have finished a lot closer and you could make a case that he should have won the race. In both his runs this preparation he hasn’t had a great deal of luck due to race circumstances and bad tactics. Today in the small field, up to 2000m and at a track he has performed well at in the past I think you will see the best of him. HVASSTAN’s run in the Guineas was enormous, getting way back in a slowly run race and coming home in the quickest late sectionals of the race. MOONEE VALLEY RACE 7 @ 9:45pm AEDT: The Australia Abel Stakes is a 1200m Listed race for 3 year olds and upwards where the 3.60 favourite with Centrebet is LOVEYAMADLY. HOW THE RACE WILL RUN WILL: The speed looks pretty good here. ZEDI KNIGHT, LOVEYAMADLY and YOUBOLT look the first 3 in running drawn 7, 3, and 13 respectively. PARTHIAN, IT IS WRITTEN, and UTAH SAINTS not far away while the remainder of the field settle midfield or beyond in a race where all horses should get their chance barring bad luck or track bias. RACE ANALYSIS: LOVEYAMADLY is absolutely flying and even though she is up to 1200m and taking on the males, she looks the one to beat. Her form this preparation is near faultless after two easy kills in lower grade races early on in her prep she jumped to the Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes, her first go at 1200m and she acquitted herself terrifically just going down to class mare There’s Only One in a tight photo. Last start she was back to 1100m down the Flemington straight and not only did she win by beating young South Australian star Avoid Lightning, but she set the track record. Today she’s drawn perfectly in barrier 3 for a nice on-pace run, gets to Moonee Valley where’s she has won before and she meets a field of sprinters on the minimum weight who may well be passed their used by dates. FREERETURN is a terrific Moonee Valley horse winning 4 of 5 starts around the tight track.
