Re: Trainer Statistics - British Jumps - 2004/5 I just noticed that you need to register to view the table via the link i posted. I will try and update the link once a week on here so hopefully you wont need to go through the hassle of registering etc.

Re: Trainer Statistics - British Jumps - 2004/5 Cheers Billy Hills.. For starters ODM, the £1 stake column shows which trainers are underestimated/overestimated by the bookmakers. For example, Martin Pipe is probably the most well recognised trainer in the country and is the most successful in terms of number of races won (see 1st column). However, the number of races he has won this year disguises a pretty average strike rate of 18%, he simply runs more horses than other trainers. Furthermore, and probably more importantly, back his horses blindly and for £1 stakes, you are £139.54 down. You will find that bookies tend to over-rate Pipes horses and hence you lose a bit of value. So one purpose of the table is to deter people from whilst having an off the cuff bet, thinking to themselves "Oh, this horse is trained by Martin Pipe so it must have a serious chance" because that clearly isnt the case. Contrast this with a less fashionable trainer like Nicky Richards, who despite having nowhere near as many winners as Pipe, he has a much better strike rate (23%) and furthermore, you would be in profit to the tune of £47.95 if you bet his horses blindly. Bookies often take the opposite approach here and underestimate horses trained by the likes of Richards and you often end up getting value on some of his runners. I think the table's helpful anyway, especially if its kept updated. If you agree with ODM and would rather it not be here, i wont take offence, ill just simply unstick it. Cheers AK
