Hennessy Gold Cup

Recommended Posts

with about a month to go before the big race, any thoughts? The reason i ask is that i immediately said this should be Grand Crus target after i saw it run at the Cheltenham festivall. Newbury over 3m 2f is a real test and GC can grow up this year as a smart top class chaser. It will jump these fences and go well on this track. It won at the track in November last year and suffered its only chasing defeat in the RSA behind Bobs worth. Its also in the PP Gold Cup at Cheltenham on 17 Nov but i think it should go to the Hennesy personally and perhaps the King George. For me its best form has ben shown on a flat track but has won at Cheltenham so can handle both types of track. The PP is over 2m 5f and i think this is a 3m+ horse. The RSA is a difficult race to win and i wouldnt be put off that it was only 4th.

Re: Hennessy Gold Cup I have some doubts about its stamina at the top level and I'd be opposing it rather than backing it in Grade 1 chases based on it capitulating at Cheltenham. I'd be looking at shorter trips rather than stamina tests with it if it stays at that level. Beaten 18 lengths at Cheltenham and put in its place in a top class race by a top class horse. Won over 3m at Newbury but was odds on in a 4 horse race and the 2nd (Sonofvic) blundered its way to a bad defeat next time out. I'd rather be a layer than a backer if it runs in Grade 1 chases over 3m+ or has to carry lots of weight in handicaps. It seems to fit your trends for the right kind of rating and likely weight carried and a race like this would make more sense than a Grade 1 chase so it wouldn't be without a chance and is the right kind of age too. Currently 8-1 for the Hennessy and 9-2 for the PP Gold Cup.
