14.05 Brighton: Lutine Charlie @ 9/2 VC Excellent start for new connections at Epsom one week ago when he produced an eye-catching finish. He raced in rear many lengths off the pace but gained an awful lot of ground in the closing stages and probably would have even won if the race would have been just one hundred meter longer or so. That was quite an astonishing performance and it's fair to assume that the horse must be really primed at the moment. He had a little break after he won a Handicap at Wolverhampton still for his old connections in July and made at Epsom this return to track. I think the step up in trip back to 1m will surly suit and his last winning form came over 1m as well, at Lingfield on fast ground last year. He's 2lb below this mark at the moment, so he didn't get up in the mark for his recent effort which came off 60. Firm ground will definitely suit tomorrow and the booking of Catherine Gannon looks significant as Pat Eddery started to use her a bit this season, four times so far which led into one win and three places. Eddery also is quite successful over the years here at Brighton so everything is pointing out that Lutine Charlie will run a big race tomorrow. 21.00 Wolverhampton: Maz @ 12/1 Bet365 + Bold Cross @ 12/1 9yo Bold Cross might be a brave choice though he looks still not rusty but rather sprightly. He won an Apprentice Handicap at Nottingham, was then probably out off his depth in a strong class 4 Handicap but again down in class very much competitive at Leicester recently. He finished 3rd there, not far beaten and was really an unlucky loser I felt. He had to overcome the widest draw, pulled hard in the early stages of the race thanks to a slow pace, had to race three or four wide for a long way of the race, yet he travelled very well in rear of the field. Too well probably as there was no room to go 3f out when he was hampered. The jockey switched to the inside rail, but also there is wasn't a trouble free run now as he had to fear to land in the rails. Yet Bold Cross finished strongly in 3rd. The form works out very well as the winner of this race won after that another Handicap in tremendous style. Considering this form he looks better than the current mark and the switch back to the All-Weather shouldn't cause problem. Maz also looks a horse that could go really well here tomorrow. She caught my eye recently at Wolverhampton when she had a poor start (hanging left), though she was soon back in the bunched field. This was a 7f race, a distance which looks very much on the sharp side for her and therefore it wasn't a surprise to see her being outpaced 4f out. It was also no surprise to see her staying on very well in the closing stages to finish in 4th only three lengths beaten in the end. This was an excellent performance in my mind considering the distance and the bad start. Not to forget it came in a competitive class 4 Handicap. She drops down in class 6 tomorrow and steps up to 9,5f as well which is of course very much in her favour. She won here at Wolverhampton earlier the year a class 5 Handicap over that sort of distance in good fashion of only a 4lb lower mark. I feel she is overpriced and so is Bold Cross

Re: Flat Racing - Friday 21th of September 4.50 Newbury: Dubai Duty Free Cup (Listed) (7f) Tricky race to weigh up with slight niggles about all of those at the head of the market with either the trip or the ground. Stoute’s Zumbi is respected as he looked a touch unlucky last time and is less exposed than most and looks sure to run well. I do like Edinburgh Knight at the prices and everything seems to be ideal for him now he has dropped in grade and expect a much better showing this time while Skilful would be a tentative selection for a saver as he hasn’t had a busy season and could be still improving. Selections: 2pts EW Edinburgh Knight 10/1 William Hill 1pt Skilful 6/1 Paddy Power Full Preview; http://www.punterslounge.com/newbury-betting-edinburgh-knight-looks-the-value-bet-in-newbury-feature-race
