he sleeping giant was awoken to some degree on Saturday with Team Darley providing the quinella in the first Group 1 of the racing season at Rosehill on Saturday. Epaulette took out the Golden Rose from his stable mate in Albrecht in what was a grandstand finish to the 1400m race. The pair got no favours at the barrier draw where they both drew wide but the race set up perfectly for them as they settled back off a hot tempo set by Queenslander Doubtfilly. The hot favourite for the race Nechita hit the lead half way up the straight and looked likely to provide a popular result for punters until the pair in maroon silks came storming down the outside with Epaulette just nosing out Albrecht.
