DeanK Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 [h=1]he Flemington Wrap: Southern Speed holds on in thrilling Makybe[/h] Last years Caulfield Cup winner Southern Speed has continued her terrific early spring form with a thrilling victory in the Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington on Saturday. The Leon McDonald and Andrew Gluyas trained mare had to overcome a barnstorming finishing burst from the flashy grey Manighar to hold on to win by the barest of margins. Peter Moody’s star weight for age galloper was hopelessly unlucky in the straight, never getting clear running until the 100m mark. Once clear he sprouted wings and to the naked eye looked as though he may have caught the South Australian mare on the line. But to the joy of Leon McDonald, her nose was marginally ahead in the photo. “Gee, she’s a good mare isn’t she?†he said. “I don’t think the race was run to suit her, being in front at the top of the running, but she won so it doesn’t matter.†McDonald said in praise of his star mare. Jockey Craig William actually thought he might have lost the race on the line http://www.betzone.com.au/the-flemington-wrap-southern-speed-holds-on-in-thrilling-makybe Quote
