Flat Racing Friday 31st of August

Recommended Posts

*Leviathan - Sandown 4:35* This horse is very well treated if it can come back to form after a break. If it does run to it's best tomorrow, it should hose up. It won at Salisbury off a mark of 89 last year, and runs off 78 tomorrow, 11 pounds lower, and coming back from a break could be tuned for a big run. Was 2nd here at Sandown last year off a mark of 87, 9 pounds higher than tomorrow. The Newcombe stable are getting the odd winner, this is his only runner tomorrow, and i am hopeful of a big run. *1 Point WIN @ 16/1 VC BOG*

Re: Flat Racing Friday 31st of August 6.20 Wolverhampton OPUS MAXIMUS 3pts win @ 9/1 bog (Ladbrokes and many more) 14-time winner 7yo gelding who has last his way of late but that means he's now rated just 57, 4lb lower than last time out and this is his lowest handicap mark ever (rated up to 90 in 2009-10). Opus Maximus loves it here at Wolverhampton and his last win came over 9.4f here at Wolverhampton 8 months ago in a handicap racing off 75 so an 18lb higher mark than today. That was just the last of many good efforts he had at this course last Autumn (2 more wins and 4 seconds) and his last visit here (in March) was when still rated 74 over 7f which is too short a trip for him and his second and third last visits came in February was in class 4 handicaps over 9.4f racing off 77 (3rd of 9) and 76 (6th of 10). 5 months is a lot of time and surely Opus Maximus has lost that form but back to his favourite venue and with a possible good gallop to aim at (hold-up runner) he has got a good chance off this mark with a good and experienced apprentice jockey (Ryan Powell) on board (this is an apprentice handicap). Opus Maximus soundly beat today's favourite Brown Pete over this course racing off 10lb worse terms during the winter and hopefully he can confirm that performance on this favourable terms. Conore Dore's yard didn't enjoy a super period of form this summer but the horses seem back to form now and the Hubbert's Bridge-based trainer saddled 1 winner and 2 close seconds with his last 3 runners in the last fortnight.
