Jump Racing ~ Sunday 22nd July

4.10 Newton Abbot BEHERAYN 4pts win @ 6/1 bog (William Hill and many more) This 9yo gelding was highly regarded a couple of years ago. He comes from a very good family (his dam produced 6 black-typed horses both on the flat and over obstacles and among them the very good Behkara on the flat and Behrajan over obstacles). Beherayn had a good start of his career finishing third in a Listed bumper and took his time to get good once asked to jump but was able to win twice over hurdles in 2008 when he was rated as high as 126 in that section and one year later was able to win in very good style an handicap chase off the mark of 114 reaching a rating of 124 also over fences. Since he left Henry Daly in April 2010 the horse has had his problems and ran just thrice in 2010 and thrice in 2011 and was not seen on the racecourses for more than 13 months until his comeback run at Hereford 4 weeks ago for the new training of Carroll Gray with the 7lb conditional jockey Michael Nolan on board (partnership confirmed for today's race). In that race (class 5 handicap chase over 2m on good ground) Beherayn was well supported (9/1 his SP in a competitive 12-runner affair) and took soon the lead, jumping pretty well and was headed just after the last jump (last fence was omitted so there was a very long run-in that day at Hereford). He lost also the second that went to today's top-weight Maizy Missile in the last 100 yards but overall that was a pleasing effort. The horse races here again off the same mark (91) and again with the same 7lb conditional jockey on board. If able to build on that comeback run he should take all the beating here and hopefully last home after another game front-running effort. He's collected all his wins on ground good to firm so today's conditions are his optimum and track and distance should be at his advantage too. He will probably never be back to that level (120+ rated) he reached 3 years ago but should be still able to win a race like this off 91.

Re: Jump Racing ~ Sunday 22nd July MAIZY MISSILE 4.10 Newton Abbot. 1 point win. Consistent type and although the ground's a little faster than ideal, it should be fair enough. Handicapper gives every chance and Paul Maloney a decent jockey. Should go close. 4/1 Bet365 BOG
