Flat Racing - Sunday 20th May

12:50 » Kranji (SIN) SUN 20 MAY 2012 KRISFLYER INTERNATIONAL SPRINT (GROUP 1) (3YO+) (TURF) (3yo+) Winner £283,582 Soft 6f Number of runners: 9 KRYPTON FACTOR 5pts to win @ Evs bog (Ladbrokes) Krypton Factor was one of the big revelations of the 2012 Dubai Carnival as he collected 3 wins and 2 seconds winning on his last start the Golden Shaheen (Group 1), all over 6f. He had been campaigned over 7f and 1m in 2011 (first year in Dubai trained and owned by Bahrain Fawzi Nass) and showed huge improvements dropped back in trip over 6f. He scored the track record over that distance on the Tapeta of Meydan on his second time out this season and had won the Group 3 Mahab Al Shimaal from a difficult wide a draw before destroying the field in the Golden Shaheen (31 Mar) where Singapore-based sprinter superstar Rocket Man was second 2.25L behind him, Hong Kong-based Lucky Nine third 4.25L behind the winner, David Barron-trained Hitchens 4th beaten 5.75L and the American Giant Ryan 5th beaten 9L with American The Factor and Australian Sepoy among the others well beaten. From that race you could just say that Krypton Factor was impressive and only Rocket Man ran a very big race in defeat, setting a huge pace in his early stage battle with Giant Ryan (fastest first 400mt ever on that track) and staying on pretty well for the second. Rocket Man is not here today and this leaves Krypton Factor against 8 horses far from his level and he seems a solid short-priced favourite even if there are a couple of unknowns as he's gonna face a race on turf for the first time since leaving Sir Mark Prescott's yard in 2010 and never ran on soft ground but on pedigree that shouldn't be a big issue (both one of his half-brothers and one of his half-sisters recorded their best performances on good to soft). Kieren Fallon will be on his saddle as usual and the latest report said the horse is very well after the long trip and settled perfectly after he had struggled a bit (didn't eat a lot) in the first couple of days. Captain Obvious and Invincible Ash, both among the winners in minor events in this year's Dubai Carnival at Meydan, seem the main dangers.

Re: Flat Racing - Sunday 20th May « 1:40 Kranji (SIN) SUN 20 MAY 2012 SINGAPORE AIRLINES INTERNATIONAL CUP (GROUP 1) (3YO+) (TURF) (3yo+) Winner £850,746 Soft 1m2f Number of runners: 13 ZAZOU 4pts to win @ 7/2 bog (Ladbrokes) I really don't like the idea to bet a horse owned by Ramzan Kadyrov but I did it already in the Dubai World Cup and will try and focus just on the horse's merits. As written above I backed Zazou for the Dubai World Cup and I can't miss his chances in this race. He has got a perfect draw (box 2) and is more than proven on this kind of ground as he beat Rio De La Plata in the Premio Roma (Group 1) last November and won two important races at Baden-baden on very soft ground. Zazou finished third 1.25L behind the winner California Memory in the Hong Kong Vase (Group 1) at Sha Tin last December but for the Hong Kong-based star racing on soft ground has to be a main concern and has got not an easy draw in this race. Godolphin's City Style, who should appreciate the step up in trip but is going also up in class and represents a stable that has been struggling a lot in the last few weeks and Hong Kong-based Thumbs Up, second in the Audemar Pigeut QEII Cup 3 weeks ago, are the main dangers among the others.
