Your biggest betting disaster/**** up!?

Recommended Posts

Be it the one you couldn't get to a computer/betting shop, or the interent went down, the one you ignored after missing the price or just one you changed your mind on at the last minute or just the one that came 2nd/fell when looking likely to win!!? Anything really - will do me good to hear it's not just me!!:lol Unfortunatly, I don't have time to write a book but one that comes to mind recently (apart from Harchibald which I will never get over!) was last year... I think the race was at Doncaster and I'd backed some donkey or other for my normal stake... I noticed that Zuider Zee was trading under the advertised price on teh exchanges and laid it accordingly - the logic being that I would back it when Ladbrokes opened and be able to save my stake money when my donkey inevitably finished down the field if Zuider Zee won... I'm sure you can see what is coming - Zuider did win but when I went to check my account, I had failed to put the bet on!!!! I was left with my stake money gone as well as £700 odd quid done on the Betfair account. It must have been the November hcap or something because I remember the Mrs had dragged me out to go Xmas Shopping!!!! That didn't help my mood I can tell you... Felt physically sick for at least 3 days!!!:\ Oh - and off topic - I was in Vegas and felt nervous as hell playing a cash game there for the first time. I had set myself a limit for the 3 weeks I was there... South Point Casino.... I had JJ and called the small raise... Flop came J J 7 rainbow...(!!!!!!!!!!) I checked (being a trappy git) and the big stack on the table shoved all-in... I practically shat myself through adrenilin on the spot and it cost me my whole stack to match him. He turned his cards to reveal KK - I have no idea what he was playing at shoving. The turn and river matched his cards and I was somewhat distraught. Could barely walk away from the table - I know it sounds unbelievable. Poker was largely aborted after that - but what a place - I insist you all go!!

Re: Your biggest betting disaster/**** up!? My biggest ever win was also my biggest f*** up. My uncle is fairly friendly with Richard Guest, he used do work for him. It was a few years ago, and a horse called European Dream was going in a 28 runner handicap at Newcastle, Daryl Holland riding. It was a Saturday i think, and i was in the pub early in the morning. The uncle rang and told me to lump on European Dream each-way, that it would win.. In the village, you could bet from the pub as the bookies was in a different town... Looked at the price, 28/1... Couldn't believe the price. Ran down to the ATM machine, and the max it would let me take out was €600.. As it was a Saturday, no bank open. I wanted to put 1k e/w on it, (i had money at the time). Ran back to the pub, rang the bookie, and asked would he take a big bet, the price at this time was 25/1... He said no problem, but just as i asked him for a price, it had gone into 16/1... If i had been 30 seconds earlier, i would have got another 9/1... But he took the bet at 16/1, €300 e/w. The horse was stone cold last with 2 furlongs to go, but Holland gave it a shake of the reigns and it burst through the field and won easily.... I had told everyone in the pub to back it, the place was mental for the next few days. Free drinks everywhere. Collected €6,600 the following day, but had i been 30 seconds earlier i would have been collecting €9,975. So it cost me €3,375... Even though i had a huge win, i was absolutely gutted about that... European Dream has been my favourite horse since, it won at 16/1 two runs later and i had €35 on it.. Then it went to Richard Fahey over the jumps mainly, but didn't perform.. Is now back with Richard Guest, and you can bet your bottom dollar it will win again soon, was 2nd last time out.
