Flat Racing 7th April (Kempton & Musselburgh)

Recommended Posts

3.15 Kempton Although AW season should be taking a back seat now turf has started it is clearly the best card of the day. This is quite an unoriginal selection but looks great value. Also worth noting that thise race is worth over £4000 more to the winner this year than it was last year which is a positive for the industry. Right Stuff might still not be fully exposed on the AW, only had 7 runs but has won 2 and placed on the other 7 starts. Ran a very credible 2nd last time out at Lingfield should be better suited to this step back up in trip and should also come on for the run. When last seen over CD he won quite impressively but that was a mid winter handicap with just 6 runners but it is form that has been well promoted so not a hopeless piece. That was off a 9lb lower mark and needs to improve further to defy a 3lb rise for latest 2nd. Activate has a great record fresh but finished last year very much under a dark cloud and also has stamina to prove up in trip. Thimaar appeared to improve for the step up in trip when last seen at Ascot in the Autumn, up 4lb for that effort and since been gelded. But was beaten at very short prices when fresh last year and wide draw for this prominent runner not going to be easy around here. Halla San has finished 2nd last 3 times having dropped to a good mark, creeping back up the weights and this is a competitive race with plenty of unexposed sorts and losing run continues to stack up. Storm Hawk has won on polytrack at Wolves but all recent winning form has come at Southwell and starting to look like a speciliast that may struggle on this surface. Gulf Of Naples has a decent strike rate 3 from 5, winning twice at 20/1+ so clearly not a great home worker which has to be an obvious concern on seasonal comeback, also AW debut today and always hard to assess the yard form but just signs a few arent quite running aswell as expected last few days so few too many question marks at a short price. Rasheed might not have beaten much last time out but couldnt have been more impressive 7lb rise fair and clearly going the right way and if coping with the step up in class should take some beating from a good draw in a race which should be run to suit. 3 from 6 around here and 1 from 1 over CD. 2pt win Rasheed 5/1 boyles

Re: Flat Racing 7th April (Kempton & Musselburgh) 2.45 Musselburgh - Hamish McGonagall - Campaigned primarily in class one races last year, Hamish Mcgonagall performed consistently but always found one or more rivals better than him at this level. The drop back to class two should assist his efforts today, as five of his eight wins are at this level, he has also won four times here at Musselburgh so he has a liking for this course. He should put in his usual consistent run again today. 2.45 Musselburgh: Hamish Mcgonagall - 1pt win @ 2/1 BetVictor (BOG) 3.50 Musselburgh - Switzerland - He should be race fit from his all weather runs this year, improvement required here but he looks to be the pick of the three Mark Johnston runners in this race. The Mark Johnston/Joe Fanning combo at Musselburgh has fared quite well over the years, especially when starting favourite in handicaps (early indications are that Switzerland is likely to favourite here). Since 1999, M Johnston and J Fanning have had 20 runners together that started as favourite in handicaps resulting in 11 wins and 7 places for an L.S.P. of +10.13pts. 3.50 Musselburgh: Switzerland - 1pt win @ 5/2 Ladbrokes (BOG)
