Re: Saturday 14th April - Race 5 - John Smith's Grand National After watcjing him win 2 handicaps in january i have poked a tentative toe into the grand national market by backing calgary bay @ 33 with coral. He is a sound jumper and big horse so he can carry weight (probably be allotted around 11st) and the trainer has said he is likkely to bypass cheltenham and go straight to aintree. He looks to have a touch of class which is required in this race. The weights are not announced until 14th feb but the price is likely to contract. He seems to prefer decent ground which is often what you tend to get at aintree nowadays-here's hoping.... just tried to top up and was refused so the 33 may not last long
