Barts Economy (MTT) Drive

Started trialing this a couple of days ago and wanted to put it somewhere mainly to help me with discipline, but feel free to read, comment, provide suggestions etc. All input is very much appreciated. Never been great at blogging, but will try to post up the odd sample hand or strategy thought and again would really value others thoughts. Starting Bankroll = $0 Platform = PokerStars Timescale = unlimited (as and when I can or feel like it) Level 1 (BRM=n/a): - Facebook Freeroll League ($1.10 seat for winner, $0.10 seat for 2nd-250th) - $5k Facebook Monthly Freeroll (if qualify) Level 2: (BRM=1, min BR=$0.10): - Facebook $0.10 League and/or - Standard $0.10 ($50 added) tournaments, reg or turbo Level 3: (BRM=20, min BR=$5.00): - $0.25+0 ($100 added) reg/turbo tournaments - Possible occasional shots at $0.20+0.02 satellites to the "Big/Bigger" or other guarantees Level 4: (BRM=30, min BR=$16.50): - $0.50+0.05 reg/turbo tournaments - Possible occasional shots at $0.33, $0.44 or $0.55 satellites to Big/Bigger/Guarantees Level 5: (BRM=40, min BR=$44.00): - Facebook $1+0.10 League - $1+0.10 reg/turbo tournaments - Possible occasional shots at $1+0.10 satellites Level 6 & above: thinking progressive BRM's of x50, x75, x100, x125 & ultimately x150 but will worry about that if I ever get to that point. Notes:

  • Can play anything at or below BRM level (eg. can still keep plugging away at the freerolls even when tickets won. On reaching level 3, can play $0.25, $0.10 or freerolls etc.
  • Will still be playing a few other games (e.g. Punters Variant Club, UKIPT league & occasional guarantees), but these will not be part of the challenge.
  • All tournaments shown are Freezeouts only, I favour regular clocks, but will include possibility of turbos too.
  • Thinking of doing a similar STT challenge on our sponsors BlueSq/GCasino starting on their 3-2-1 Giveaways, but more on that later.
  • Haven't yet decided on criteria for using "shots" at satellites and if won whether to play the tournament or take $T, thoughts welcomed.

Re: Barts Economy (MTT) Drive Thx guys, I've been trying to put volume in on the level 1's which are at 9.30am (don't make many of these :lol), 1pm, 7pm & 1am UK time. Will post up the results so far in the previous placeholder post a mo, I'm up & running on level 2, but expect to bust the roll a few times before becoming established if indeed I manage it at all :unsure Edit: Will also post my reasoning for doing this shortly too as initially people may think I'm mad grinding hours and hours for only a few cents. That's true, but I'm trying to fine-tune my game (cheaply) and iron out the many leaks.

Re: Barts Economy (MTT) Drive 27/11 Facebook Freeroll Lge, -$nil, 97/1,731 (Top 250) +$0.10 Facebook $0.10 Lge, -$0.10, 16/1,561 (Top 216) +$0.68 Facebook Freeroll Lge, -$nil, 1745/4,964 (Top 250) Facebook $0.10 Lge, -$0.10, 998/3,772 (Top 540) BR = $1.04 Good start to the day cashing in both of the first tournaments, but couldn't quite make the final table of the 10cent where the big (relative-wise ofc) money is. Happy enough though, staying positive - next time. Got a little distracted tonight breaking my number 1 golden rule and had skype on helping a friend to reach the money in a freeroll. Not an excuse though, I picked some really bad spots and just wasn't concentrating. Busted the later 10c with AKs vs QQ pretty standard i think, not sure I can fold to his 3bet shove after open raising. Fold would've left something like 15 big blinds. Will find the hh. Elsewhere (and not part of this challenge) I made back to back cashes in the UKIPT (£1.10) league. Busted 20th tonight (£2) after losing the HU last night (£37). Was heading nicely for the ft again until my open raised QQ got shoved on by a larger stack with A2o.. you know the rest lol

Re: Barts Economy (MTT) Drive Thx guys, your support is very much appreciated. Trying to work out how to show the HEM video replayer in here so bear with me, failing that I'll just post the hand history, but replayer would be easier to view & more compact. Bust out of todays first 10cent-er with a 4-bet shove KK hoping to get a call and ofc got 3! KK vs Ace rag vs small pair vs TT, tbh I already had my virtual coat on and sure enough small pair (6's i think) hits his set. Have to expect that on these micros though and the times my (hopeful) edge pays off should eventually outweigh the suckouts. In the 2nd 10cent game I made a really bad AK call shortly after getting into the money against KK. Will dig the hand out but think i was circa 30bb deep so an unnecessary risk me thinks. This is exactly the type of situation I want to improve on, I think AK is one of my biggest leaks, more to follow on this. 28/11 Facebook Freeroll Lge, -$nil, 1,056/1,776 (Top 250) Facebook $0.10 Lge, -$0.10, 427/1,262 (Top 180) Facebook Freeroll Lge, -$nil, 3,029/5,570 (Top 250) Facebook $0.10 Lge, -$0.10, 567/4,098 (Top 585) +$0.15 BR = $0.99

Early yet though and just one top 3 ($8 to $30) would really get me moving in the right direction. Patience is the key. On a footnote, all $0.10 cashes so far in the incredibly soft FB league (regular 1500/10 mins clock) with none in regular tournaments yet, albeit turbo 1500/5 & 1000/5 ones. Will need to move up a couple of levels before I get to the decent regular structure tournaments which my game play suits more.

Re: Barts Economy (MTT) Drive Runner-up in the PBBG online final, just missing out on the £1300 package (PL branded top not getting an outing this weekend at least and goes back in the drawer ready for next time). Reb picked up a bad beat and was 5th. Bit gutted, but have to keep remembering that I won both the daily freeroll and a weekly qualifier to get there and was a 10:1 dog going into HU. Overall doing ok, next time. Back to the micros tomorrow.

Re: Barts Economy (MTT) Drive Weeeeee, new BR high (for this challenge) as my consistency cashing in the 10cents continues. Now have 15xBI on this level and just under 1/3rd of my designated but still highly aggressive 20xBRM for the next ($0.25) level. Challenge02122011.jpg Performance in the FB freerolls seems to have slipped somewhat, but probably sub-consciously concentrating on the 10c's and only continuing as they start at the same time as the FB $0.10. 02/12 Facebook Freeroll Lge, -$nil, 1,329/3,061 (Top 250) Facebook $0.10 Lge, -$0.10, 298/2,210 (Top 324) +$0.16 Facebook Freeroll Lge, -$nil, 2,055/4,665 (Top 250) Facebook $0.10 Lge, -$0.10, 2,155/3,772 (Top 540) $0.10 NL Holdem Turbo ($50 added), -$0.10, 49/4,710 (Top 990) +$0.83 BR = $1.56 Picked up on another couple of leaks in my game during today's play and a few other thoughts, will cover these over the weekend.

Also played a couple of 10th Anniversary tournaments, but won't include these in the challenge due to the one-off added value included. I want to grind this up properly, analysing and learning as I go... no cheats or short-cuts.

Re: Barts Economy (MTT) Drive Thx Joe, yeah I'd passed the basic test many months (probably years now) ago when it was first introduced, but had forgotten all about it so appreciate the reminder. Will take a look shortly. Will also update my results/stats soon, still on $2 and grinding out the $0.10's, trying to reach the magic $5 to move up to $0.25's. Hit my first bit of mental frustration last night when heading healthly towards my first potential ft (and the $6 to $28 it would bring) but ofc getting wiped out by a total donkey over a couple of big hands. Sigh, poker can seem really unfair at times, but regroup and carry on. As sure as Easter after Xmas, it will come. Will probably post results etc on a weekly basis now unless there's something special to report, like a move up a level (or down). Will try to get around to posting some other analysis, stats, sample hands etc during the rest of the week. One quick factor I've noticied is that the 10c's are using 15% or 20% ITM, a reason why my stats look surprisingly good at the moment. Will work out some figures on my Top 10% results, as this will be more compareable with a 'standard' tournament cash on the higher levels. Elsewhere (not part of this challenge), managed to win a 140fpp satellite at first attempt, so now have a one-shot at qualifing for the Sunday Million from the resulting $11 sat. 1. I am such an idiot 2. I am such an idiot .... 99. I am such an idiot 100. I am such an idiot Embarrassed to admit the following, but lessons need to be learnt Barty Boy: :$ (a) Don't multi-table the donkament freerolls at the same time as playing a half decent satellite like tonights $11 Sunday Million sat. (b) Don't call a steal shove in the big blind with AJo after confusing the above said decent satellite with the "winner only" from 3000 entries donkament freeroll that starts at roughly the same time. Ironic really that I was thinking at the time, oh well if i bust i can concentrate on the satellite... doh! © always open the relevent lobbies and position the tables so you know exactly which tournament is which (d) just don't :\ Oh well only down 140fpp and back to the micro grind.

Re: Barts Economy (MTT) Drive Challenge temporarily put on hold while I look for my will to live. Know it's around here somewhere :eyes Can't seem to win a flip at the moment and ofc on these micros you always get multiple callers so are at best only 30% fav to win. 1st downswing (I've been lucky up to now) and prob good time for a short break to avoid donking off buyins. Might be a day or two, or might wait until after Xmas. 11/12 to 13/12 Facebook $0.10 Lge, -$0.10, 923/1,674 (Top 252) $0.10 NL Holdem Turbo ($50 added), -$0.10, 1,218/2,138 (Top 432) Facebook $0.10 Lge, -$0.10, 613/2,046 (Top 306) Facebook $0.10 Lge, -$0.10, 2,515/4,432 (Top 630) Facebook $0.10 Lge, -$0.10, 920/1,667 (Top 252) Facebook $0.10 Lge, -$0.10, 620/1,716 (Top 252) BR = $1.28 ... to be continued!

Re: Barts Economy (MTT) Drive Why don,t you have a break from the micro,s and play the regional sat,s to this weeks Sunday million (2 million for the winner), great value with about 300 runners and 10 seats added. just think Bart, this time next year we could be millionaires:cigar.

Re: Barts Economy (MTT) Drive Hopefully back on the pony of patience now after a spell on the donkey of despair :p Not so much despair at the downswing which was expected and maybe overdue, but more the nature of the suckouts etc. Since the last results posted in the thread, down a further 4xBI ($0.40), bankroll now stands at $0.88. Had 3x cashes of $0.14, $0.16 & $0.40 but these haven't been enough to offset the buyins. Still waiting for my first ft, but have done them on these type of tourneys in the past, so there's still hope. Just 1 ft would set me up with a proper grindable BR and open up more available tourneys to multi-table. Overall so far:

Overall Freerolls $0.10's
Played = 92 39 53
Cashed = 20 (21.7%) 4 (10.3%) 16 (30.2%)
Finished within Top 10% of field = 16 (17.4%) 8 (20.5%) 8 (15.1%)
Finished within Top 5% of field = 8 (8.7%) 2 (5.1%) 6 (11.3%)
Finished within Top 1% of field = 3 (3.3%) 1 (2.6%) 2 (3.8%)
Total winnings = $6.18 $0.40 $5.78
Profit/Loss = +$0.88 +$0.40 +$0.48
Effective ROI = 16.60% n/a 9.1%
# But bear in mind that $0.10 mtt's carry no tourney fee, so results better than can anticipate on higher levels. Challenge19122011.jpg

Re: Barts Economy (MTT) Drive PokerStars just announced they've ceased the Facebook leagues with immediate effect ("unforeseen circumstances" which could mean anything). Not even going to run the $5k monthly Freeroll which I'm pretty sure I qualified for :( Not really a problem, still up quite a bit from progress made so far so can continue with the regular $0.10 mtt's after Xmas. Will have a think though and might re-jig the format a little or start from say a $50 deposit instead as will now only be left with 3x viable $0.10 tourneys per day (at odd hours) in their schedule. Not really sufficient to grind away. Opening up to $1.10 or even just $0.55 tourneys, will make available lots more tournaments, the possibility of mtt sngs and also allow the "taking shots" element which I've now formulated a structure for. More soon, taking a break for a few days, but feel free to post ideas/thoughts/suggestions etc.......... Merry Chrimbo everyone :beer
