Dead Small Blind

I don't usually play cash live, but I played last night at my local casino when the following situation arrived. I'm UTG+1 and the BB loses all his chips and leaves the table. I expected the button to move 1 place and just the BB to be posted. Instead the player who was UTG becomes the SB and I have to post the BB. This happened three times before I decided to comment. I was told by the players and the (inexperienced) dealer that this was correct. I didn't ask for a ruling, but the cardroom manager was nearby and confirmed the rule stating that in cash "There always has to be a SB and BB". Everyone agreed that this isn't the case in a tourney. "OK" I thought "Must be a local rule", but added "It's different online" Then the player next to me adds "No it's not. I've played 500,000+ hands and it's the same online" Now I've played 500,000+ hands and I've never seen this happen ever. So who is right? Is it site specific?

Re: Dead Small Blind That rulings bollocks it means the utg player misses his bb. The next hand the utg should have become the bb and the sb would be missing, the next hand it's back to normal. In a cash game though it usually doesn't matter you just carry on playing as you normally would I think.

That's what I thought

That's what I was told (by the player who missed his BB twice!) It's not the cost of the blind that concerns me (this was a £1/50p table) it's the fact that someone gets to play one less hand out of position.

No I meant carry on as normal as in the utg becomes bb and the player to his right becomes sb. You should never miss your bb ever.

Re: Dead Small Blind

But the player to his right had been SB on the previous hand.
oh yeah sorry, it's the same a s tournament then. Former utg just posts 'phantom bb' and then guy to his right becomes bb next hand and play is back to normal.

Re: Dead Small Blind

Pokerstars play it the same as the live example! Quite a few times i've been utg with sit out next bb on' date=' the bb leaves the table after that hand and then i post the sb the next hand! (missing the bb)[/quote'] Ah! So the guy was right. I've never played on Pokerstars, so I've not seen it before. I've played most of my cash on Fulltilt, now on Boss Media and it doesn't happen there. Does this apply to 6 max too?
